Great experience. Thank you Unicorn

I attended the one-week course with my friend in Chengdu, and I was genuinely surprised by how amazing the experience was. Next year, I’m already planning to return for at least a month!

Our teacher, Unicorn, was fantastic—truly the best you could ask for. She was friendly, kind, and an excellent language teacher. She supported us with everything we needed in Chengdu and made sure we had a wonderful stay.

Panpan, Mandy, and the rest of the team were awesome too. It was a pleasure getting to know them, and I can confidently say that LTL Chengdu is run by great people.

If you love exploring new cultures, making new friends, and learning a new language all at once—this experience is for you!

One-to-one lessons and homestay LTL Saigon

I completed a two-week intensive course at LTL Saigon, and I am very happy with my choice.

First, I felt very well supported and informed before I arrived there. I got a phone call from my Vietnamese teacher to get to know my level and my targets. I also had a video call with the local coordinator where I could ask all my questions.

The course itself was very efficient and well organised. I made a lot of progress along the way, I wish I could have stayed longer, cause I really felt like I was improving more and more.

Finally, the host family was very caring and lovely. I already miss their amazing food. The house was super clean and well-equipped.

I highly recommend LTL Saigon.

Pros
  • Diners at the homestay
  • lessons outdoors

Amazing School in Shanghai

I studied Chinese with my Teacher Winnie and I really enjoyed learning together with hear. She is one of the best language instructors I have ever had. Her teaching style is engaging, clear, and fun, making even the difficult aspects of Mandarin much easier to understand.

First of all, Winnie has a deep knowledge of the Chinese language and knows how to explain complex grammar in a simple and practical way. As a beginner, I often struggled with sentence structures, word order, and the use of particles like “了” or “的.” However, Winnie always provided clear examples and comparisons that made everything click. Instead of just giving me rules to memorize, she would use real-life situations to illustrate how grammar works in natural conversation. For instance, when teaching the difference between “才” and “就,” she gave me multiple scenarios that helped me grasp the nuances immediately.

Another thing that sets Winnie apart is her excellent English proficiency. Many Chinese teachers can explain basic vocabulary well, but when it comes to abstract adverbs, conjunctions, or idiomatic expressions, it’s hard to find someone who can clarify them in English. Learning words like “反而,” “简直,” or “居然” is sometimes confusing, but Winnie always found English equivalents and explanations that made sense. Her bilingual skills make learning much smoother, especially when I need precise clarification on subtle meanings.

Beyond language teaching, Winnie also cares about her students’ daily lives. Since I was new to Shanghai, she shared many useful tips on how to navigate the city, where to find good food, and how to make the most of my study experience here. She even recommended some great language exchange events and apps to help me practice outside of class. Her advice has been incredibly valuable, and it shows how much she wants her students to succeed not just in learning Chinese but also in adapting to life in China.

Overall, my experience with Winnie has been fantastic. In just one month, my Chinese has improved significantly, and I feel much more confident in both speaking and understanding the language. She is patient, knowledgeable, and genuinely passionate about teaching. I really hope I can continue learning with her in the future and highly recommend her to anyone looking for a skilled and fun to work with Chinese teacher.

Thank you, Winnie, for making my learning journey so enjoyable and productive!

My time in Shanghai

My experience at LTL Shanghai was great. I stayed 2 months in a host family. They were so nice people I‘m glad to have met them. My overall class experience was so good. I made a lot of new friends from different parts of the world and we experienced so much together in Shanghai. My two teachers Jason and Lois were the best. If you need any advice with anything you can ask them. Jason is an expert on cats and history and it’s so easy to talk with Lois about travel plans because she has a lot of suggestions. We had so many fun activities with the school, so I‘m really glad for my great experience there.

What was the most unfamiliar thing you ate?
I didn’t know I would actually try this in China but I had some chicken feet and cow stomach which at first were so weird.
Pros
  • Improve your Mandarin
  • Meet people from all over the wirld
  • Experience one of the most beautiful cities
Cons
  • Language barrier

Great Experience at LTL Chengdu

LTL Chengdu is the perfect place to study Chinese in a really nice atmosphere. I spent 4 weeks in Chengdu and could not recommend it more.

My teacher Presli made my time in Chengdu the best I could have imagined! The classes with her were always fun, and she helped me improve my Chinese a lot during this month. She is definitely a teacher at heart, who cares a lot about her students and gives her best to help everyone study at a suitable pace. She would always be patient with me and answer all my questions, even outside the classroom. I am really happy to have had her as my teacher and hope to be able to come back one day!

Also, the other teachers, Unicorn and Ying, and the other LTL students are super friendly, which creates a really welcoming atmosphere in the school all the time! It‘s easy to connect with each other and practice your Chinese with different people. Really helpful for practicing are also the social activities that the school organizes, where Chinese buddies join for language exchange.

I really recommend this school if you‘re looking for a school that‘s not only focused on teaching the language in a classroom, but also creates many possibilities to practice in real settings and connect with like-minded people!

Great Experience at LTL Beijing

I joined the semester program at LTL Beijing for two semesters and had an amazing time. The staff were super helpful, always checking in and quick to support us whenever needed. Linda and Masako made the activities fun and really helped us experience Chinese culture.

My teachers—Alice, Sara, and Ellie—were all fantastic! Their lessons were well-structured, full of speaking and listening practice, and they used tools like flashcards that really helped with remembering vocabulary.

I started with zero Mandarin, and by the end, I could hold daily conversations with locals with minimal difficulty. I highly recommend LTL to anyone wanting to learn Chinese in a fun, supportive environment!

Amazing cultural experience and super fun adventure!

At first, I found the classes not to fit my level, but then, after discussing with Linda, I adjusted my class situation to a more suitable level and environment. It was so good to be able to learn 1-on-1 with a teacher who would explain things in a way that I would understand, thank you, Claire! I also loved being able to explore the various hotspots and beautiful scenery around the city and its famous places. I made lots of friends not only with fellow students but also with the staff and teachers I would interact with on a daily basis, for example, eating lunch with everyone, talking during breaks, and laughing during our excursions. Thank you especially to Linda and Jane for organizing everything and helping out as well as being such bright presences during our outings.

Fantastic Staff and Cultural Immersion

Beijing is full of history, but what makes the city the most impactful is the people. LTL is the best example of that. In the past two weeks, LTL Beijing helped me immerse myself in a culture so foreign to much of the Western world. Linda took my friends and I around the city, exploring famous historical sites, taking traditional music classes, and even learning martial arts! Afterward, we would meet with Jane to explore parts of the city at night. Linda and Jane (two great LTL staff members) are the reason my experience in Beijing was so positive. They always made sure I was having fun, and because of them, it was impossible to not. I also could not have asked for a more genuine and fitting teacher than Lilia (邓老师). I don’t think I’ve ever had a more kind and patient teacher than her. You can tell that she truly enjoys teaching and wants to help you succeed (and is the best person to motivate you to learn at 8am in the morning)! The small group class was the perfect combination of learning and having fun. For anyone who wants to maximize their language learning and culture immersion, LTL Beijing is the clear number one choice. The friendships I have made here will last for a lifetime.

Unforgettable experience in Beijing LTL💚

I have had such an unforgettable experience at LTL Beijing! A place really is its people and here I had a magical time feeling at home with the LTL family.

Not only did I feel welcomed by everyone as soon as I stepped through the door- but even before I got to Beijing! My student advisor Ilaria and the school manager Linda patiently and diligently helped me to plan my trip and secure my visa before arrival. The school managers Jane and Linda are incredibly caring and light up the school. They would always be more than willing to give us recommendations to explore the city or help us out with anything at all like exchanging money. They would even go above and beyond to ensure we had a special experience like once we mentioned wanting to try out 功夫 and Linda would book this activity for us as a wonderful surprise.

All of the staff are incredibly patient in using Chinese and helping us outside of the classroom too! Every morning and in breaks they engage in Chinese chats with us to help us practice and brighten up our day. Sometimes they would have to repeat things or speak incredibly slowly for us and they would always do so with a smile which really helped me to learn. For instance Masako even taught us how to play Mahjong in Chinese! I also felt incredibly close to Beijing thanks to my connection Carol who would ensure I did all the things that excited me the most and made sure I always felt safe. Since I am vegetarian, I was previously worried that I would struggle but Carol took me to a fully vegetarian (and very well priced) buffet close to where I live, ensuring I didn't miss out on anything!

I couldn't be happier with my Chinese learning experience and am so lucky to have been taught by 王老师。 Lessons were so engaging, stimulating and interesting that I would remember them well and be able to incorporate phrases from class when interacting with the locals outside of class. I absolutely loved 王老师's teaching method as she was focused on ensuring we absorbed the crucial words and grammar to soar to a higher level while teaching us how to use the language as a natural 北京儿. So as well as advancing fast through the textbooks we often had activities like debates and topic discussions. 王老师 also taught us about culture as well as language- ensuring we ate like a local (with recommendations like the Durian pizza) as well as lived like one like practising our Chinese watching cinema recommendations. My friends would even ask me about my favourite times I'd had in Beijing and I would genuinely answer that lessons were one of the best!

I am forever grateful for the memories I have made here with the LTL family in Beijing and look forward to making more!
