Bali Nutrition and healthcare education

The volunteering was a great experience and put my out of my comfort zones. I learnt a lot about the culture here in Bali and got to explore some amazing places on my time off.

The team were amazing and the food was really good! Accommodation as well was lovely, just a bit far out from Ubud that I thought.

There needs to be much more description on where volunteers stay and what they will be doing before arrive. I had no idea, turning up blind sighted. Also the program was not only focused on nutrition it was healthcare in general and it just involved teaching which was not specified in the brief.

Hart Women and Children’s Commune

What a fantastic trip! It all came about when I didn’t get into an overseas program with University and knew I had to have some sort of learning experience whilst overseas. And what a great experience where I have learnt so much! Each day we would assist in the kindergarten from 8 till 12, then we’d spend time with the ladies in the office assisting with any office tasks. In the afternoon, once the school children returned, we played out in the field. Right up until sunset we would play hand clapping games, soccer, rugby, and pani (Fijian yard game). The kids were absolutely gorgeous and everyone was so friendly and welcoming.

Litea (or mum as she insisted we call her, by the end of the trip she certainly was out Na). She managed to cook for us all whilst managing the office and taking care of her two adopted children.
The food certainly offered us an insight into the Fijian cuisine. We all became obsessed with Tapoka by the end of the trip. We were also very greatful for Mere taking us to the local market so we could enjoy some fresh produce too.

Would be good if the person who assists with what donations are necessary has spent some time in Lovu Hart. Whilst we managed to donate over 28kg of supplies it would have been good to know the demographics of the commune to know how to cater to everyone.

What was your funniest moment?
The highlight would be some of the local guys taking us to a waterfall! We had to hike through a sugar cane plantation to the base of the sleeping giant where we then got to jump in and swim at the local watering hole.

Bali English teaching

Country and project I volunteered on.... Bali and English teaching.

Tell us as much as you can about your trip, were there any highlights? What was the volunteering like? ... I had the most amazing time helping children learn English during daily lessons. I will definitely do it again, as I also met the most amazing people.

Comments on local team, food and accommodation...... The staff were so welcoming and created a safe space for everyone.

Improvements........ Longer hours to volunteer.

Kindergarten Project in Ubud

My volunteering experience in Bali was truly amazing!

The Introduction week was great (we visited Temples, Ubud, a traditional dance show, made Batic Painting & much more!) and after that, my project in the kindergarten started.
You have to work from 8-10h with 30 Minutes break. The kids are 5-6 years old, and don‘t know much English, so you have to teach them the basics very playfully. Working in the kindergarten can be very loud, but overall it‘s fun and the kids have are so sweet and thankfull!

On the afternoon you can chill at the pool or make day trips to waterfalls,go out for dinner in Ubud or even go to the beach (45 Min drive).

On the weekends nearly nobody stays in the accomondation, everyone goes on trips to discover more of Bali.

It was such a great experience and the time went by so fast. I would definetly recommend it!

Pros
  • The local team is so sweet and very helpfull. I had a surf accident and they really took care of me. They can also help you with visa extention.
  • The food was very traditional Indonsian food but soo good! Fresh fruit to every meal.
  • The accomantions are small, but they get cleaned every day. The bathrooms are western.

Guatemala with construction and child care

My friend and I went to Antigua, Guatemala for over a month and participated in the volunteering of child care and construction. We absolutely loved this experience and all the people from all around the world. We did volunteering from about 8:30-12 every day and it was full of laughs and great conversations while creating a change in the world. We build soccer goals and a treehouse in a school, it was so much fun and rewarding. My highlights included meeting new people from all around the world every single week and it was so nice to have a support network while travelling overseas. I would highly recommend for friends and families and anyone and I would certainly do again.

The accommodation was amazing, my friend and I stayed with a host family and it was the best experience. The room was clean and it was nice staying with other people from across the world too. Our host mum cooked us breakfast and dinner everyday and we loved trying the local food while improving our spanish. The local team was so supportive and was there to answer any and all questions.

Cons
  • - just let people know they need money for the bus every single day (cash)

I did my volunteering in Guatemala and worked on two different projects of construction and childcare.

Since we stayed for a long time it was very easy to go see the amazing attractions Guatemala offers like the volcanos, Mayan ruins and lakes. They were all so gorgeous and it was defiantly exciting getting to see a new culture. We mainly did construction volunteering with Fredy and it stared at 8:30 in the morning which was a really good time and went till 12. We helped out a special needs school and got to supply them with a more colourful and fun environment with a treehouse that could double as a private classroom for one on one sessions. Overall it was an unforgettable experience that will be cherished.

I stayed with a host family (Jessica) and they were so accomodating, the room was lovely and the food was delicious even though I definitely had to try some new things. The local team was always happy to help with questions and were very flexible with getting you the schedule you desired,

I volunteered in Bali, Indonesia for the project named Healthcare-Education.

I really had a great time volunteering here in Bali. It was a great experience and I’m glad to be able to do it. I met such lovely people here in the volunteer community. It feels good to do something on purpose, to have a positive impact on local community and making this world a better place by giving back. I recommend volunteering for everyone. It’s beneficial for others aswell as for oneself. I enjoyed it!

The Team was great! Very loving and welcoming! Always there for us when we have questions or when we have anything to talk about! The food is very delicious and hygienic! The accommodation was satisfying to me. Very clean.

animal shelter in Fiji, Nadi

Tell us as much as you can about your volunteering trip! What were the highlights of your trip? What was the day to day volunteering like at the shelter?
Looking after dogs, cats and puppies was my main task. Taking them for a walk and giving them lots of love is the best thing you can do. Some of them went through a lot so they needed you much more.
Comments on local team, food and accommodation
Perfect! So grateful for the everyone I got to know the last two weeks! Accommodation & food were great!

Cons
  • Unfortunately the way to the bus station and the shelter were a long walk, I didn’t know about. There are probably people applying for it who can’t take such a long walk
