Beat time with the best people!

Over what ended up being 5 weeks In fiji I had the best time!

I had the pleasure of meeting some amazing Fijians who are now considered family. Yet, I’ve also met some amazing like minded people from around the world and the uk who are also now family!

I felt privileged to be welcomed so warmly into the village, especially as it was my 20th birthday which was a massive whole village celebration!

The energy in the village was great! And the fact that every morning you’d walk through the village to shouts of good morning from literally everyone sums this up.

The mix of coaching sport and teaching works really well and provides a variety of challenges and opportunities for all types of people. In short there’s something for everyone!

Can’t recommend the project enough to anyone!

What is your advice to future travelers on this program?
Go in with your eyes open, it’s not a holiday! You’re working hard, with long very intense but hugely rewarding, fun days,

Unique experience

I had the best, most memorable 3 weeks in Fiji while helping and teaching primary school children in the process. This is a trip that allows full immersion into Fijian life and culture, to get an experience that you will not find anywhere else. It is sustainable and puts teaching methods, techniques and wider curriculum opportunities and ideas in place for children who may not get this opportunity otherwise. Living with a family in a rural village was one of my favourite parts and I now have a whole new family on the other side of the world. We experienced a very different life from at home which really put things in perspective. I also had this opportunity in an area of Fiji (highlands) which I wouldn’t have visited otherwise. Such a beneficial and amazing trip for both volunteers and locals!

What would you improve about this program?
I would add better procedures for ensuring full sustainability in teaching, such as greater emphasis on training the teachers to take on the techniques taught

My Think Pacific experience - Fiji

My experience in Fiji was one that I will never forget- I did not know what to expect when i signed up-even though you see all these images/ videos of volunteers visiting schools in Fiji and having the best time- When my group got to the school that we were helping - we met out families and then the next day met our kids. One thing that made my whole experience - was the Fijian families that live in the village- My na and ta were the best - they were so welcoming and made my experience so memorable.I will never be able to cook as well as my Na- she made the best fried rice and babacao. The school children were also the best people to surround yourself with- they were so happy and bubbly that it was infectious. You could not not have a bad day.

What was the most unfamiliar thing you ate?
A cacao plant- eating the surrounding white parts of a cacao bean was crazy because i did not realise where the beans even came from and it was so nice. still trying to find it in england!

Fiji 2019

My time in Namoli village was an unforgettable experience - from dancing the traditional hotpot to drinking grog. At first, it can seem quite daunting but the families that welcome you into their homes are some of the most friendly and smiley people I have ever met. This, of course, includes the children who were amazing to teach and see the progress of over the 3 weeks. I made some amazing friends within the team and the village who I will never forget. However, this would not have been possible without the support and organisation of Think Pacific, particularly the group leaders. During the briefing days, they provided us with lots of advice from lesson planning to cultural rules, so that we were prepared. For anyone thinking of taking part, I would 100% recommend it.

What was the most nerve-racking moment and how did you overcome it?
Entering the village but the families quickly make you feel at home and welcomed!

One month in Fiji

Spending a month in Fiji was an experience I will never forget, I met some amazing people and have made friends for life! Living within a Fijian home makes the whole experience even better, my Fijian family made me feel so welcome! I didn’t want to leave by the end of project, the photos and memories of the village and everyone within I’ll keep forever. Teaching in the school was challenging at times yet so rewarding! The hikes every Saturday were another highlight of the trip, we visited two waterfalls, I’ve never seen anything like them before. Also the night under the stars was a whole new experience, you’ve never seen anything like it! It’s a once in a lifetime experience that I will never forget, one of the best months of my life! Such an amazing opportunity you won’t regret it!

What was the most nerve-racking moment and how did you overcome it?
Getting to the village and not knowing what to expect at first

Once in a lifetime experience

I was super excited when I first saw the ad for think pacific, and having just finished my 1 month project, I couldn't be happier I went ahead and did it. I had the most amazing time in Fiji, and to now say I have a fijian family, a whole new bunch of friends, and memories for a lifetime is just incredible. Even though I had my inhibitions at first, once I had attended the orientation I felt much more drawn towards the project. Our leaders were lovely, and we had access to support 24x7, both physically and emotionally. The month flew by, but I really felt like we made a genuine impact in the school we taught. The entire experience was wholesome and fulfilling to say the least. I would definitely go again in the near future, and could not recommend think pacific more highly :)

Incredible Experience

My ThinkPacific project was the most rewarding and challenging thing I've done. An unforgettable experience. I have memories that I will keep with me for the rest of my life. I made some amazing friends and now have a second family on the other side of the world.
I taught in the Kindergarten and it was my absolute favourite part of the whole project, the children were always so excited to learn and although at times they were crazy, you could see how much fun they were having as well as learning which made my day every day.
Teaching house cup and sports was also a big highlight as it was amazing to see how enthusiastic the children were and how they would give anything a go.
I would recommend TP to anyone, it was an incredible opportunity and I am so happy I did it .

What would you improve about this program?
Wouldn't improve anything, loved every minute of it.

2018 rewa expedition

I had such a experience, and would reccomend to others to do Think Pacific projects.Being with the families meant that we were totally part of the community and could help the family improve their english as well as having some home comforts. It meant we got really involved with the everyday life of the villagers and also were taught a very different way of living than in the UK. I had a really good time in the classroom and out and met such wonderful people. There obviously were ups and downs, as there would be for any time that you spend travelling, but the support from TP, the others on project, your Fijian family, pupils and other villagers are people that will always stay in your memory and any slight bump in the road is soon looked over.

What was the most unfamiliar thing you ate?
I thought I would struggle with the food but it was fine!

Once in a lift time experience

I volunteered with Think Pacific in June-July 2019 and can honestly say it was one of the lowest amazing experiences I have ever been apart of. As soon as you walk into the village for the first time you are welcomed as their own and fully immersed into eh culture. The leaders are always there whenever you need anything. By going to Fiji I gained a family on the other side of the world that I will always be in contact with, memories forgers can only dream of and friends of a life time (plus a few doggy tan lines). The children in both the village and the school love all the volunteers and will teach you loads of games and little songs that you can take home and teach others. Overall I would recommend this to everyone and if you are thinking of doing it I say just go and do it you wound regret the decision.

Incredible experience

Volunteering with Think Pacific was an incredible experience and one which I will never forget! Being fully immersed into village life was truly special and the family who hosted me were so friendly and welcoming. The team leaders that I had on my project were amazing. They supported all the team members throughout and made sure that we made the most of our time in Fiji. They arranged all sorts of activities and excursions which made the project all the more memorable. Teaching English, Maths and Sports to the Fijian pupils was challenging yet so rewarding. From the start to the end of the project I could see that we were making a real and important difference to the school and the village that we were in. This was one of the most rewarding aspects of the project!

What was the most nerve-racking moment and how did you overcome it?
Entering the village was very nerve wracking as I didn’t know what to expect and it was very different to what I was used to
