The experience of a lifetime!!

My experience in Fiji was truely unmatched, completing a youth empowerment project was so fulfilling and I enjoyed the amazing opportunities to learn about the Fijian culture. The youths feedback on the project was amazing and they seemed to have got so much out of it. I would definitely recommend Think Pacific to anyone interested, it was amazing time and I also made many lifelong friends & memories. I hope to visit my village family in the future, they were the best, having the opportunity to live with a family really made the difference and we became apart of the community.

Community Build 2024

I did the community build in Nasibitu in August. Living with the families was so good, not only have I learnt so much about their culture and way of life but I met people I will miss forever. Leaving in the worst and hardest part of a project. The build was so great, painting was the most fun part as we could add our own touch to the build, seeing it come together in just 3 weeks was incredible. The excursions with the locals on weekends were my favourite - bilibili racing was definitely my highlight of the month!

What was the most unfamiliar thing you ate?
Casava - Them fried as chips were amazing!!!
Pros
  • Confidence building
  • Teamwork
  • Independence
Cons
  • Homesickness
  • Illness
  • Loneliness at times

Once in a lifetime experience

The Think Pacific Fiji volunteer trip was the best experience I have ever undertaken. You get to immerse yourself into the true Fijian way of life, living with some of the kindest, loving and caring people you will ever meet.
I learnt so much from the culture courses such as farming, weaving and gender roles.
The opportunity to lead workshops sessions was equally enjoyable, giving us a chance to learn with the Fijian youth important matters such as the climate, public health, mental health, leadership, business and sports. These were all enjoyable sessions which allowed each group covering the session to put their own twist on the lesson plan. Sessions involved lots of activities including acting/role play, making/creating and even a creating pretend stalls for a fair!
Free time allows time to truly bond with families, the children and each other as volunteers. Fijians love sport so there is lots of opportunity to play sports such as volleyball and touch rugby!! We even set up a sports day which was a day jam packed with activities.

Weekends are equally enjoyable with Think Pacific organising trips such as the seeing a waterfall, going to the beach and visiting a river in which we helped youth build a bilibili raft and catch fish!

I couldnt recommend this trip enough - it has stuck with me in my heart; the love and warmth you will feel from the Fijians is like no other. This truly is a once in a lifetime experience as each village is only ever visited once! And each memory made will be totally individual to you

What was your funniest moment?
The talent show; this brought volunteers and youth together to each perform in groups or in pairs different acts such as singings and dancing.
Everyone really went for it!

I also think some of the funniest moments were shared between me and my Fijian brother singing songs we made up together.
Pros
  • Immerse yourself in true Fijian culture
  • Meet lovely people with similar interests
  • Make friends and have a Fijian family for life

Life changing experience

I took part in the one month mental health project in Fiji. This month was by far the best month I ever lived. I met people that I will never forget and will cherish forever. I’ve never experienced such a welcoming community and such love in my life. As much as we raised awareness about mental health within the Fijian village, us volunteers definitely learnt more from our village than they learnt from us. This project was soul healing and I wouldn’t change it for the world. I wish I could do it again.

What was your funniest moment?
My funniest moment was definitely during the village nights all the youth would dance and put talc powder on each other. My coco (uncle) was the headman and we were having a talc fight.
Pros
  • Amazing people
  • Delicious food
  • No phone signal in my village
Cons
  • Insects

Rewarding and enjoyable

This experience was incredible. I would highly recommend Think Pacific Youth Empowerment to anyone looking to make a difference, learn about a new culture and step outside the comfort zone. The reciprocity of the project was important to me and I can truly admit I felt a mutual exchange of culture. I could talk about the project for hours and I am incredibly grateful for this opportunity. My volunteer group, leaders and village will hold a special place in my heart and I hope our legacy remains forever. Thank you so much TP.

Pros
  • A new way of living
  • Surrounded by love, happiness and community

Fijian experience

Think Pacific has completely changed my life. I will be forever grateful and thankful for all the incredible people that I have met on the project and the forever friends that I made along the way. The experience helped me see the world from a completely different point of view, to see how people from the other side of the world live and be part of it as well. To live and experience the Fijian every day life, to have a host family and so many relatives is something incredible. It is definitely worth going and being part of something so special.

What was your funniest moment?
The first hop hop night with the volunteers and all the people from the village.
Pros
  • Meeting incredible people
  • Being on the other side of the world
  • Feeling free
Cons

The best experience ever!!

Doing Think Pacific completely changed me as a person and changed my perspective on many things. I am so much more culturally aware and experienced having completed Think Pacific. The people I met during my project, both volunteers and Fijians were incredible (aswell as my leaders)! They have helped me to develop as a person and I won’t forget about a single one of them. I was hesitant about the project at first because I was worried about being away for so long, but I can safely say I did not want to leave!

10/10

Never thought that in mere 4 weeks I would have gained a second family and the most amazing friends, missing my village daily, hopefully will be back again.

The first week was definitely slightly overwhelming but that quickly went away and soon we were dreading the last days ahead of us. The celebrations, prayers and workshops were so uniting it was a great experience. Thankyou think pacific, had the summer of a lifetime, Fiji I will absolutely be back thankyou.

A great time in Fiji! Building a medical dispensary. A wonderful opportunity to build social and practical skills. My confidence, faith and commitment all developed whilst I was in Fiji.

I’m grateful too of spent this month in Fiji, and wish I could do it all again! The leaders were wonderful. The family I stayed with were supportive and the medical care was wonderful.

Everybody was willing to help and support us, and ultimately help us flourish during our time there. Great opportunities to explore and to have fun too! Lots of sports.

Make the most of every experience, take every opportunity and fully immerse yourself in the culture.
Pros
  • Social

Amazing time in Fiji

I recently completed a month long youth empowerment program in a remote Fijian village with Think Pacific and the experience was one of the best in my life. I was able to fully immerse myself into village life and experience all aspects of traditional Fijian culture, such as ceremonies, food and dancing. We were also able to make a difference in the village, teaching the young people about important topics such as sports development and public health. Think Pacific were extremely throughout, both before my journey and during my time in the village to support me in every way. I had an amazing time and I would encourage everyone to take the opportunity to volunteer with Think Pacific too.

What was the most nerve-racking moment and how did you overcome it?
The most nerve wracking moment was the journey to Fiji because I was so nervous and wasn’t sure what to expect. I was able to get through this with having other people going to Fiji with Think Pacific on the same flights. If you do the programme, try and arrange flights together with other people going on the same project as you.
Pros
  • New culture
  • Make a difference to the youth
  • Meet loads of new people
Cons
  • Very different food
  • Very muddy
  • Can be expensive
