Ninja TEFL Academy

To keep short, don't listen what reddit has to say. Although the course does come with a heavy cost, it gave me a solid foundation needed for teaching and to settle comfortably in Vietnam. Definitely do not half ass or expect everything without putting in any effort. This goes for anything you do in life, if you want something then you have to show that you deserve it. Endless support was also provided throughout and even after the course had ended with career advice, assistance with accommodations and just general questions regarding Vietnam. It's also provided me with a community of like-minded individuals who I now see as my new friends. Cheers!

Ninja Teacher Online TEFL Program

Claire is an amazing instructor and very patient and kind!

I kept hearing vloggers say "Ninja Teacher is a great TEFL school and I feel confident to go teach after taking their course".  I have never heard anyone say they feel confident after taking a TEFL course before so I became curious about Ninja Teacher.

Then when I saw that Ninja Teacher had an online course and then I read about the instructor's credentials I thought to myself "I have to sign up for this course so I can learn from her and get access to all the videos and materials in her course!"

I previously did a 168 hour online TEFL with a different company  and I learned some stuff but mostly I just got good at writing essays but I did not feel like I was ready to teach.  It was not very engaging, they only had one classroom video which was not that great and they did not ask us to really analyze different things the teacher was doing in the video like this course did.  They had reflection questions at the end of many modules but they were not as good as the reflection questions in this course.
I learned a lot by answering all the questions including all the reflection questions in this course and clicking on all the recommended links.

This course had more recommended links with supplemental resources then the other course.   The supplemental resources were great as well.

The other course actually had a lot of 3 minute videos also but they were just powerpoint presentations with some music in the background.
The other course had a lot of audio clips also but I find I learn better with video clips than audio clips.  Even if it's just a video of someone talking with a powerpoint presentation the visual with the audio really helps.
The other course had a good amount of text and audio clips and 3 minutes powerpoint video clips.   This course had 6x more classroom videos and the course slides were much better.

The other course listed some ideas for activities but did not give detailed instructions on how to do those activities.  This course had a huge amount of pdfs with ideas for all different types of activities and how to do those activities.

The other course discussed  behavior management theory and said it is important to keep the students engaged but did not go much into the practical application or techniques so I did not feel prepared to manage a class after their training.  This course had a ton of information on different techniques and which levels to use them on, etc.

The other course did not ask me to create any lesson plans and I did not have an instructor review my lesson plans and give me feedback.  This course had me do 3 lesson plans at 3 different student levels which was great and I was provided with feedback from the instructor.

For giving instructions they just said give clear instructions and showed us a video of a teacher giving bad instructions and said don't do that.  This course gave me step by step instructions on how to give clear instructions and gave examples of good and bad instructions.

This course really focuses on the practical application of TEFL theories and techniques (step by step how you will do this in the classroom) whereas the other one was more theories with some tips and ideas.

This course also has weekly online zoom sessions where you can do peer teaching and message boards where you can actually interact with the instructor.  My other course had none of that.

This course also had video assignments which made me improve my presentation skills. The other course had no video assignments.

After this course I feel ready to teach!  I would definitely recommend the course to anyone looking to teach English!

What was your funniest moment?
Teaching an imaginary class during the video training was kind of funny and weird. But it really helped me get better as a teacher.

It was a great course and I learned a lot, I would suggest more exercises for the trainors to observe and comment.

The classroom techniques, which opened my eyes to how you can tailor fit the lessons, activities and exercises to suit the level of your students. The stretching and voice techniques for me are the best. The initial reaction of the class to your voice could make or break their interest The brain breaks, warm-ups, and numerous topics further enhanced my method of teaching. The part I would like to improve on is the TTT teacher talking time which I have to minimize and interact with the class more and ecourage them to speak. I would definitely recommend this course to my friends and colleagues. Good job Ninja Teacher!

What was your funniest moment?
The funniest moment was when I was tasked to do a presentation and my markers malfunctioned and good that I was prepared with a back up activity which I was able to continue and finish the lesson. The next lesson, I didn't anticipate the presentation of the reading material to be more appreciated if it was joined together in the exercise. So, I had to improvise and use my creativity to come up with the slide and finished the lesson. These incidents sometimes can't be avoided and you have to think out of the box and luckily I was able to accomplish my tasks.

A 100% Thumbs Up for this Program

I found this program extremely helpful in giving me a sound understanding of the English teaching process especially since I have no experience in formal teaching. It has equipped me with several effective teaching techniques and practices which has given me the confidence to face classes of different age groups and render effective and productive teaching.
The curriculum is very well developed with lots of video teaching sessions which are actually very helpful and gives practical learning. The content is engaging and actually paced very well covering all the key aspects required to impart a good lesson plan.
I also found the Live sessions with the head trainer, Claire very engaging and productive. These helped as a refresher, gave additional practical insights about learning, student behavior, etc and also gave an opportunity to interact with other students across the globe and gather various insights.
The assignments were also paced well and helped in focusing and going back to relevant modules to go through again so as to be able to complete the assignments properly.
The trainer was always responsive to queries and helped in facilitating the completion of this course with inputs as and when required.
Overall, this program has strengthened my confidence to take up English teaching as a profession

What would you improve about this program?
In my opinion, the program is very well structured and paced. However, i would recommend that having more video teaching modules could generate more interest and make the course more engaging. Practical teaching sessions seen live generates more interest than textbook content and i would recommend having more of these.

Review of Ninja Teaching Academy

Overall there is a lot of good content in this course and all of the teachers are there to support you if you need it. Just reach out to them. Unfortunately the live sessions that they offer twice a week were inconvenient for my time zone, but they were very responsive by email. The only inconvenient thing is that everything requires you to school A LOT on their online classroom. I parts of the course I wish there were a few more example documents of some of the assignments. But overall it was a good experience, I just want to warn anyone who is going to take this course, if you don't pace yourself and keep yourself accountable it is easy to forget about the assignments and just keep on procrastinating in perpetuity.

If you did this all over again, what's one thing you would change?
Given that it is an online course that is asynchronous, I would keep more tabs on myself to make sure that I wouldn't procrastinate as badly.

Ninja Teacher TEFL Online Course

My first online course was awesome because of Ninja Teacher Academy. I was planning on enrolling in their in-person course but it became unavailable due to covid. This led me to opt for their online programs instead. They've created a nice online learning atmosphere with a Facebook group, Zoom classes, school listings, and email feedback from great people. The online course gives you all the tools and time to understand the material and get a look a what's ahead of you as an English teacher in another country. I look forward to working with them in the future.

If you did this all over again, what's one thing you would change?
The one thing I would have done differently is to attend more of the zoom classes and communicate more with other students and teachers.

Ninja Teacher - TEFL

I truly appreciated and enjoyed the entire experience of learning. The materials are great, the variety is amazing with written information, videos from classes (that was huge for me while taking the course online), as well as help and support from the best teacher/instructor Claire Lee. In my opinion one couldn't ask for more. The live sessions with Claire are extremely helpful and bring lots of clarity. You get everything you need to become successful. All you have to do is put in the work.

Much love and many blessings to the entire Ninja Teacher Academy team!! 💖⭐️🦋🐸

Ninja Teacher Alumni

I was extremely satisfied with Ninja Teacher Academy. The course instruction gave me the tools to become a successful ESL teacher in Vietnam. The staff is well educated in the field and support is beyond exceptional. I felt very comfortable coming to Vietnam and attending the 4 week in class TEFOL course with Ninja Teacher. Not only were they able to provide in class support but they were able to provide personal one on one support as well. They guided and helped with job placement as well. Going the extra mile !!

What was your funniest moment?
Learning to be a kid again during role play. Each of had to teach a lesson while the rest of the class was assigned a student role. This was for student management and we were naughty, shy, talkative, inattentive and quite obnoxious but all in good fun.
