Unforgetable

It was a really great experience. The sports program allowed us to get close to the local population and share our passion with them in their school. Life is truly incredible in this region, and being so close to the people is a unique experience, especially when they are so incredibly kind. The team on site who took care of us was also amazing; you want for nothing, and they are always there when you need them. I only spent two weeks in Ghana, but they were two weeks I will never forget, and I can't wait to go back.

A 10/10 Experience

I spent 1.5 weeks at the sea turtle project at Cape Three Points. The local coordinators were super supportive and made great effort to explain why this work is so important for the turtles and what impact it has. There was always plenty of free time to balance out our work, whether by relaxing in the hammocks, drinking fresh coconuts, going for walks on that beautiful beach, having drinks and playing games with the team at the nearby resort, cooking local food together,...

All in all, my time there was definitely too short, I wish I could have stayed longer (and am already thinking about coming back one day) and would definitely recommend this program! It will leave you with many wonderful memories.

What was the most surprising thing you saw or did?
Saw whales!!
Pros
  • lot of once-in-a-lifetime moments
  • beautiful nature
  • great staff
Cons
  • you'll find sand everywhere ;)

Teaching in Rural Ghana 🇬🇭

I had the incredible opportunity to be part of the Atlas Volunteers group for 4 weeks. I had such a brilliant time, the coordinators we're kind and welcoming and the other volunteers were amazing too! Having the chance to teach in Ghana has helped me decide my career path as a primary school teacher. I chose this organisation as it is extremely transparent and is focused on its goals and I felt this to be true from my time spent there. I hope one day to be in a position to return :) Such a wonderful experience and I would recommend it to anyone who is unsure.

A Truly Rewarding Experience

I have taken part in many volunteer programs in different places, but the experience in Abetefi has something truly special and different. So much so that after going there for the first time in January 2025, I decided to return in September of the same year, and I am already thinking about going back for a third time.

One of the things I appreciated most is the variety of projects available. There is something for everyone, from education to reforestation and other community-based initiatives. I personally took part in the construction, reforestation, and agriculture programs, and what makes the experience especially rewarding is that you can clearly see the real impact of your work.

The atmosphere is fantastic. The staff are extremely welcoming, supportive, and approachable, and they truly create a strong family feeling among volunteers. No matter which program you join, you feel included from day one. Volunteers of different ages, backgrounds, and lengths of stay (both short- and long-term) are mixed together, which makes it very easy to connect and feel like part of the group.

Beyond the daily work, they also organize afternoon activities, such as Twi language classes or any fun activity suggested by the volunteers themselves, which adds a lot to the overall experience.

The location itself is incredible, surrounded by lush greenery. If you love nature, there are plenty of options for excursions to lakes, waterfalls, and other natural spots nearby. At the same time, if you feel like something more urban, you can also go out for a drink or even dance on weekends at local bars, which gives you a great balance between nature and local life.

Ghana is also a very safe country, and throughout my stay I always felt comfortable moving around freely without any concerns, whether during daily activities or in my free time. This sense of safety really allows you to relax and fully enjoy the experience.

The volunteer house is well equipped and has everything you might need, including a kitchen. There are shops nearby where you can easily buy food and ingredients to cook, which is very convenient. Weekends are free, and volunteers usually take the opportunity to travel and explore other parts of Ghana.

Overall, this was a very positive, enriching, and rewarding experience, and I would 100% recommend this program to anyone considering volunteering.

What is your advice to future travelers on this program?

Highly recommendable!

I stayed with Atlas Volunteers for 3½ months, full of personal growth and exploration of a culture new to me. What helped me was that it was possible to change the volumteer-project I was doing, to accommodate for me finding out what I find interesting. The weekends were off, we would sometimes take trips to the Beach (4-5 hours away) or a national park (12 hours away).

I can really recommend going to Ghana with Atlas volunteers, they are a good organisation and I even extended my stay multiple times while being there.

Sea Turtle Conservation at Cape Three Points

We spent two weeks in Cape Three Points in November, with five children from the age of 6 to 14, and had the most wonderful time. Although hard work, the children were all able to help, and we all felt we contributed to the important work being done here. The staff was so welcoming, helpful, knowledgeble and made us feel very safe and included.

We are left with the memories of an incredible experience that we are so happy we got to share with our children. We can definitely recommend a stay with Atlas Volunteers!

Unique experience

The program helped me find a volunteer experience that was both meaningful and personal. The honest reviews and real stories made me feel confident in my choice and well prepared before going, even though I was scared. What stayed with me most were the people I met and the genuine connections formed with the local community. It was an enriching experience that went beyond volunteering, and I would definitely recommend it to anyone looking for a purposeful and human centered experience abroad. Don’t miss your opportunity!

It’s turtle family time - amazing time at cape three points

Being at a very special and beautiful place with amazing people, it felt like home. Time to experience new things, learning a lot about the culture and the turtles and all the stuff to do around to protect the turtels.

Having a good time together with cooking, bonfire, family nights, learning the language, trips at the weekend or just a relaxing day at the beach and the lighthouse.

Living in very cute huts, a very nice garden directly at the beach. Going for a swim or surf is always a good choice.

I miss the good time I had there and would like to come back. It’s a good mix at a very chill and peaceful place.

Unforgettable experience, truly making an impact m

I had the best experience with Atlas and this organisation truly cares about making an impact. Everything was very well organised starting with airport pick up. The coordinators and other volunteers really made the experience special and it felt like a family where everyone wants to make a difference to the local community. Small things like local language lessons, cooking together and exploring the local area meant you really got to experience the culture. The volunteer programmes are well set up and even in the short time I was there you could see the difference that it made. A trip I will never forget and would definitely go back!

My Time in Ghana

I was involved with the education program with Atlas Volunteers for a little over six months. That time was one of the most transformative, rewarding, and fun periods of my life. I primarily worked closely with kids in fourth, fifth, and sixth grade. Although I worked with many students, I felt that I was able to make an impact and connect with each of them. I primarily taught english, but I assisted in other classes as well like art and computing. I met one-on-one with several students, and it was amazing to see how their confidence and abilities grew week over week.

While I spent most days assisting at the school, I also assisted in reforestation and attended special events such as the independence day and cultural day celebrations. During the week, there are football games, game nights, and big family meals. On the weekend I sang karaoke at the bar; swam at the local pools; and traveled to waterfalls, beaches, and historic sites. While the trips were great, the staff at Atlas Volunteers is what made my time in Ghana exceptional. They’re all kind, hardworking, and fun people, and they do everything they can to make sure your trip is both impactful and enjoyable.

What is your advice to future travelers on this program?
Don’t be afraid to get more involved! From organizing games with the other volunteers to preparing arts and crafts activities for the students, there’s a lot you can do to make the most of your time. The volunteer coordinators really want you to succeed and have a good time, so say something if you have any ideas for getting more involved in the community or even if you have a fun game or trip in mind.
Pros
  • Great Staff
  • Form relationships with people in the community
  • Fun activities
