Life abroad

Thus far, my experience has been very positive. My school has been incredibly supportive, and I live in Valencia, a vibrant city with so much to explore and enjoy. The community is welcoming, with plenty of local events that make the area feel lively and full of culture. Transportation is convenient and affordable, making it easy to experience nearby towns and beaches. I’ve really enjoyed my time here and am excited to continue my journey in Spain. Don’t be afraid if you’re placed somewhere unexpected—it’s a great opportunity to grow and try something new. RVF has been extremely helpful, always answering my questions promptly (usually within 24 hours) and offering excellent resources. The group chat community has also been a wonderful space to connect, share experiences, and feel supported

Stepping Out of My Comfort Zone and Into a New Life in Spain

Moving to Spain with RVF International was one of the best experiences of my life. Leaving behind everything familiar like my friends, family, and routines was scary, but it pushed me to grow and step out of my comfort zone.

Teaching has been one of the most rewarding parts of my experience. I’ve learned so much from my students and coworkers, even across language barriers.

Outside of work, I’ve traveled across Spain and beyond, exploring cities like Cinque Terre, Barcelona, and Madrid. Each trip has been wonderful and easy.

This journey has taught me that real growth happens when you step outside of your comfort zone. I came to Spain uncertain of what to expect, but I’ve already made unforgettable memories, and grown in so many ways. If you’re considering joining RVF International, take the leap, you won't regret it!

What is your advice to future travelers on this program?
Say yes to things that scare you a little. The best memories come from stepping outside your comfort zone.
Pros
  • Traveling on the weekends
  • Trying new foods
  • Meeting new people
Cons
  • The unknown can be scary
  • I'm on a smaller island, so not many other language assistants here

RVF Review

RVF has been nothing but helpful throughout my entire experience, and I’m truly grateful for their support. From the very beginning, they have been there for me every step of the way, making the whole process so much smoother and less stressful. Anytime I had a question or needed guidance, someone from RVF was always available to help, offering clear answers and genuine encouragement. Their organization and communication have made everything feel easy to manage, which has taken a huge weight off my shoulders. I’ve really enjoyed being part of this program and have felt supported not only professionally but personally as well. What’s even more reassuring is that my teachers have also spoken highly of RVF, mentioning how reliable and well-structured they are. It’s comforting to know that others recognize the same level of excellence and care that I’ve experienced firsthand. Thanks to RVF, I’ve been able to focus more on my goals and enjoy the journey without unnecessary stress or confusion. Overall, my experience with them has been incredibly positive, and I couldn’t have asked for a better team to help guide me through this process.

Amazing Experience

My experience in Spain with the RVF program has been truly unforgettable. From the moment I arrived, I felt welcomed by the community and supported by the program staff. Teaching here has helped me grow both personally and professionally, and I’ve gained a deeper understanding of Spanish culture and language. The relaxed pace of life, friendly people, and opportunity to travel around the country have made this experience even more rewarding. I would highly recommend this program to anyone looking for adventure, growth, and connection abroad.

Come with an open mind and a flexible attitude — things in Spain move at a different pace, and that’s part of the charm! Take time to learn some Spanish before you arrive; even basic phrases go a long way in connecting with locals. Don’t be afraid to step outside your comfort zone, whether that’s trying new foods, joining local festivals, or saying yes to spontaneous plans. Most importantly, embrace the slower lifestyle and enjoy every moment — this experience goes by faster than you think!

Living in a Medieval Town

So far, I have had a pretty positive experience moving abroad to teach English with the stressful parts being as manageable as they can be realistically. I am very happy with my placement, I live in a beautiful town and community with a great teaching schedule! My apartment is walking distance, and perfect for me. I will say though, the stipend will not get you far. While I did come with a reccomended amount of savings, this is a very expensive process and it has quickly almost disappeared a month in. Travel is not the easiest where I live with the bus schedule but do able. If you are thinking of joining this program, I would strongly consider your personal goals for the year and also what you need to thrive in order to figure out what region might be a good fit. I am a pretty introverted person, and so I dont mind as much not traveling as often as I hoped. Moving from a big city, I wanted a slower pace and so this journey feels right for me and I am grateful to be have been welcomed kindly into my school. My teachers are helpful and I have loved being with the kids, living in a small community I am getting a very rich cultural experience already seeing town festivals and traditions which is special. RVF has been very helpful for the visa process and answering questions I have, it is good to have professional support doing this because the process is extensive and can be confusing

What was the most surprising thing you saw or did?
My town had a very interesting religious parade with amazing music
Pros
  • Great schedule with free time
  • Great school
  • Beautiful town
Cons
  • Adjustment anxiety
  • Financial stress
  • Loneliness

My story!

Hi I’m Lizzie, a 24-year-old from Washington state who decided to stop doing seasonal ski gigs after college and decided to teach English in Dénia, Spain with RVF International. It’s been a very cool experience. RVF handled the paperwork chaos and helped me organize what papers need to go where, which is so helpful for navigating. I’m at a school, working 16 hours a week with kids who are starting to nail their English—it’s pretty cool watching them improve already. The €1,000 monthly stipend covers my shared apartment and leaves enough for weekend trips to Valencia or chilling on Dénia’s beaches or maybe a trip somewhere else. The NIE card wait was a pain, and I get homesick sometimes, but everyone has been super supportive. If you’re down for this, brush up on basic Spanish, pack for random weather, and stay open to any placement!!! Dénia’s got relaxed vibes. It is a solid way to live abroad and sort out your life!

What was your funniest moment?
I kept repeating that I need a barco (boat) to the grocery store clerk instead of asking for a bolso (bag). Definitely got laughed at for that...
Pros
  • life changing to meet new people
  • inspiring to see the kids learn
  • pretty views
Cons
  • frustrating to deal with paperwork
  • hard to understand with language barriers
  • stressful to get housing

I highly recommend

It was only a few years ago when I came across someone’s TikTok of a girl that posted her experience about teaching English abroad in Spain. Something about that video really stuck with me. She had mentioned RVF international in the video as well and I immediately saved it. I wondered, this could be me one day. And it was always in the back of my mind, that I could be living a whole different life if I just went through with it. And that’s when I reached out to RVF. They really helped me with any doubts or concerns I had. They always responded to my emails in the most timely manner and answered any questions I had. I don’t regret applying through them because they made my moving abroad experience less stressful. As for my time abroad, it was indeed the best time of my life. I got the chance to travel and explore the most beautiful and jaw dropping locations. I met other auxes in this journey and we made so many memories together. And of course, I documented every moment from my camera phone to my digital camera. If I had to do it all over again, I would.

A life changing experience

I was initially hesitant to take the leap of moving to a new country. However, very quickly after arriving to Spain, I knew it was the right choice for me. The process itself can feel daunting; between the paperwork, appointments, moving logisitics, and learning a new language and culture. And, with the support of RVF, this process went rather smoothly given what was necessary to complete. RVF has provided me with consistent, timely, on-going support, even after my arrival in Spain. Between them and the language aux community here, I am feeling more and more settled each day. I would encourage anyone who is considering making the move to do so!

What is your advice to future travelers on this program?
I would highly recommend learning as much Spanish as you can before arriving in Spain. Though it is not necessary for success in the program, knowing the language and building confidence speak it opens many more doors for opportunities and connections.
Pros
  • Culture exchange
  • A big push of the comfort zone
  • Friends from all of the world
Cons
  • Costly
  • There is a significant adjustment period
  • There is a hefty amount of paperwork involved

My next chapter in Spain!

Making the move to a new country will be challenging no matter where you go. However, with RVF International, the move became almost seemless and the admin super easy to deal with. The team is always there to help and all my questions were answered, putting me at ease everytime. All of the paperwork was simple and handled by RVF, with me only needing to do minimal work. I am extremely glad that I had, and still have, the support of RVF for my move and time in Spain! I'd highly recommend the programme and having RVF as your support team!
