My IU Studies

I recently entered my second semester and am completely satisfied with my experience at IU. I am currently living in Spain and the IU still offers me the opportunity to study in German, because my Spanish is not sufficient for studying. This way I can study in a country of my choice, study in German and easily visit my family, since I can fly at any time outside of the holidays. Meanwhile, I still go to the language school and pursue my other hobbies, without having to stick to a given schedule.

My German friends are studying at a "normal" university in Germany and every time we talk I realize that it wouldn't kite studying there. I really enjoy arranging my work myself, so I don't have any pre-determined semester breaks or exam periods. As a result, I don't have that much stress and can choose when to do which topic. In addition, compared to my friends, I notice that I am definitely better looked after, because there are many more opportunities for help and contact persons.
I can also choose the exam dates and thus choose the best time for me.

Just because you can study online and manage your time, doesn't mean it's much easier pass exams. It is essential to be able to organize your time and work consistently. Personally, I am an organized person and at the beginning of a subject I make a schedule and stick to it. Otherwise you won't make it far in your studies.

In my opinion, distance learning is suitable for people who are organized and consistent.
Even if I don't feel like it, I still have to pull myself together and get my work done. Since there are no fixed exam dates, lectures or deadlines, you have to motivate yourself to do the work. Otherwise everything just accumulates and you will be overwhelmed. If you know in advance that you need another person (e.g. a teacher or professor) who will tell you when you have to do something and you are happy to put off unpleasant tasks and not finish them, you will not be happy with distance learning. But if you can motivate yourself enough, the IU offers a great opportunity to bring more flexibility and freedom into your study life!

Pros
  • Flexibility
  • No exam period
  • Freedom
Cons
  • Responsibility
  • Time management
  • Cost

MBA

Education is the passport to the future, for tomorrow belongs to those who prepare for it today.

Being an MBA Alumni of IU, I am most thankful for this opportunity to better myself through education, forming relationships and experience with the real world and how people relate with one another. Education is the most important part of IU, I felt that very thankful for the way that classes pushed me to be a better student and the way they teach and how to manage my time and priorities was astonishing. Once I graduated from IU, I was so grateful that I have had the ability to gain a very strong education, so that I will have the chance to start a career that I love. I have had the best Professors of my life, I'd like to thank Dr. Dominique-Pascal Groß for being so encouraging and doing everything to keep me motivated and supported throughout the program. His knowledge and leadership provides with a priceless model for my own career. I am so happy to be part of my education. Wanna acknowledge Prof. Dr. Jan Pieper, who is pleasant, firm, and professional while teaching your class. I have learned important skills from you that helped me academically and personally. Thank you Jan...) Last but not the least Prof. Dr. Florian Hummel & Prof. Dr. Marc Helmold are the one of the best professors who helped me for my Master Thesis. Both were a great instructor: organized, responsive, patient and able to clearly explain complex topics and nuances. When it comes to deciding where to study, Employability is becoming an increasingly important factor. Quite simply, students and parents want to know that the often-high costs of a degree-level education will lead to a beneficial outcome when it comes to stepping onto, and climbing, the career ladder. I really wanna say a big thank to Jan Fischoeder, who not only helped in creating & polishing my CV but also helped me in hunting all the jobs related to my field. So if you want to give yourself the best shot like me at finding a relevant job and career path after university, then there is no doubt about IU!

I can suggest it to others

I did my Bachelors at IU and I can say, it was really nice and they managed to give us very good online classes during COVID. One of the reasons I started at IU was because I was interested in an english speaking course. Now that I have completed my studies, I can say everyone who wants to study International management at IU should do it! You will not regret the chance to have an amazing experience and meet international students. The area is also very well located and the rooms at the university are new.

Evaluation for the program

Hello,

My name is Aamer, and I am from India. I am currently studying in berlin doing my masters. When I arrived in 2020, it was proper COVID time. So, at start there was difficulty. Then as the time passed I got used to it, and from there on it was just a roller coaster of a ride. Because in Berlin it's quite difficult to find a house for yourself and there is a huge language barrier as well, but people are very friendly.

And now I am in final semester of my masters, and in few months I will be graduating. So, the overall experience was good and I learned many things in these 2 years.

Pros
  • Nice professors
  • Different cultures of students
  • Sports
Cons
  • Responsive time of university is slow
  • Not much of knowledge from staff
  • Complicated at times regarding few things like paying up fee etc

IU International University of Applied Sciences

Overall I am quite happy with the program. I can study from home and take exams online. The university gives all the materials and an app to follow your progress. You have to find more information online but this can be said about a lot of universities.
I was looking for a degree in Computer Science or related field that I could do online, that would be in English and allow me to study at home. It's very hard to find a university that satisfies all three requirements but this one does. You can choose your own speed and do what's more comfortable for you.

Pros
  • Can study online
  • Not expensive
  • in English
Cons
  • Sometimes it's hard to get in touch with the university stuff
  • Some books may use more clarity
