Internship in Peru- Pimentel, Lambayeque

Interning here is a great, rewarding experience that will as well open many doors for me in the future! The placement is great here in Pimentel, because we are right on the beach, that has great weather all year long, the school is right in front of the famous pier of Pimentel and you can hear and smell the ocean and its roaring waves! You can do lots of stuff here; walk on the long pier, try some of the best ceviche of Peru, go for a fun surf or take some lessons with the locals, or go out in to the city life of Chiclayo with only being about 20 minutes away and enjoy some ridiculously fun clubs, bars and disco techs!

ASI-Pimentel,Peru

The school of Academia Superior de Idiomas is located in the department of Lambayeque, and is part one of the districts of the main city of Chiclayo. We are placed in a welcoming, warm beachtown of Pimentel. Pimentel is a sea side community, that has an amazing, long pier to enjoy by going on walks, watching the local surfers, get some amazing views of the sunset, ocean, the town, or you can even jump off of it into the ocean! The town is known for its famous fishers that use their famous fishing boats, called "Caballitos de Totora" or their traditional reed boats, which are narrow bamboo rafts. The caballitos de totora are an amazing sight, and especially when you see the local fisherman put them to use out in the water, it is an experience that only happens here in Peru! What is most appealing about the program location is that there are not many tourists here, so you really are enriched with the authentic Peruvian lifestyle.

The school is so supportive of your travels, no matter what it is! The staff makes sure you are feeling comfortable at your program and during your entire stay, with being very welcoming hosting fun activities for all the clients and offering any help/assistance they can give to make sure you have a great time!
Whether you wanna surf, tan, go on long walks on the pier, try the delicious Peruvian ceviche, visit different beautiful cities around Pimentel, or go out with friends on a cool night at some of the local disco techs, Pimentel is sure not to disappoint!

What would you improve about this program?
Having more friendly staff like the ones they have now! :)

Street children project in Quito

I did a 2 week placement with the street children in Quito, the placement was great fun and the kids were amazing, i enjoyed the experience, i would have been able to bring more to the programme if my Spanish was at a higher level, it was frustrating at times not being able to communicate with the teachers and children.
I arrived in Quito during public holidays so we had the chance to take the kids to the public swimming pool and share a picnic lunch in the park. The children did not have much so a special treat was a huge day out and just to see them all smiling was really special.
Everyone was great and i would recommend spending a few days weeks or months experiencing a different look at life.

What would you improve about this program?
I would have like if the teachers could have spoken more english, i was lucky that the other volunteers there spoke and understood Spanish, so helped me out. I have a basic understanding of Spanish but my conversational Spanish was poor.

Fantastic Spanish teachers and great internship

Stayed at the Academia Superior de Idiomas in Peru for 3 mths and it was a great expericence. Every morning we had 4 hours of Spanish, extremely funny with the young and motivated professors and my 1 or 2 classmates. I lived with a guest family, which was the best decision I ever made. They were just so incredibly kind and caring, and I got to do things I would never have done on my own: we went to a Peruvian babyshower, a lectures/show for starting companies, church, restaurants, friends of the family, etc. My time here was great and I would definitely recommend anyone to go there for a different experience.

What would you improve about this program?
Probably using books would improve the spanish courses. However, ASI has the policy to work without workbooks, which also has it's advantages.
