I had the opportunity to visit Tenerife in the Canary Island for 5 weeks, and it was one of the best pre-medical and personal experiences I've ever had. Working in the Spanish healthcare system gave me firsthand insight into universal healthcare. I believe it gave me the chance to form my own opinion on a topic that is so controversial in the U.S. The program also introduced me to a culture other than my own. I loved learning the language, visiting sites all over the island, seeing festivals, and trying new food. The coordinators were very friendly and were always there if you needed them! I would definitely recommend the program to anyone!
What would you improve about this program?
The program was new to Tenerife, and we had to adapt along the way. The only drawback was the wifi in our dormitory, but the staff worked very hard to get it working!
Response from Atlantis (Pre-Health Summer)
Hi Lauren, thanks for your review and thoughts about the program, it is wonderful that you were able to get real-life insight into universal healthcare and reflect on what is such a hot button topic in here in the US. We're also taking your suggestions into account and hope to improve wifi access for future participants. Thanks again and wishing you all the best on your path to becoming a physician!
