About Program
The Middlebury program in Kazakhstan offers cultural and linguistic immersion through a rigorous curriculum and adherence to the Middlebury Language Pledge. By pledging to speak only Russian and Kazakh while abroad, students will have the best chance of acquiring fluency and actively engaging in the local environment. Students primarily take their classes together, conducted in Russian by local university professors. The spetskursy, or content seminars, feature topics relating to Soviet history and culture, Central Asian Studies, Kazakh music, history, language, and culture. Additionally, students may take courses at a host university. This program is designed for students with two years of prior Russian language study.
