About Program
Learn Russian in the European Union is a provider of customized Russian-language study abroad programs for US and European universities, government institutions, and private learners.
We are based in Daugavpils, Latvia, the largest Russian-speaking city in the European Union and NATO.
Daugavpils is a unique place – a Russian-language enclave in Latvia. In Daugavpils, nearly everyone speaks standard modern Russian as their native or primary language and Russian is the language of everyday communication.
Learn Russian in the EU offers a range of study abroad programs: semster and academic year with credit transfer at Daugavpils University, summer programs, and fully tailored individual programs. Our semester abroad programs offer numerous elective courses, thus enabling students to customize their curriculum.

* Intensive 6-week language study and full Russian language immersion in Daugavpils, Latvia, the Russian-language enclave in Latvia.
* 140 instruction hours with Daugavpils University professors.
* 12 ECTS credits in Russian language at Daugavpils University (optional).
* Conversation practice with native Russian communication tutors, 12 hours.
* Intensive 5-week language study and full Russian language immersion in Daugavpils, Latvia, the Russian-language enclave in Latvia.
* 120 instruction hours with Daugavpils University professors.
* 9 ECTS credits in Russian language and 3 ECTS credits in area studies at Daugavpils University (optional).
* Conversation practice with native Russian communication tutors is included, 10 hours.
In addition to the Russian language courses, the program includes diverse course options in political science, European Union political system and law, history, etc. These courses will be taught in Russian.
* Compulsory Russian language courses, 18 ECTS total.
* Elective courses. The program provides a list of recommended courses. Students have to select at least 6 ECTS.
* Elective courses. Students are eligible to pick courses from the full course catalog, 6 ECTS total.
In addition to the Russian language courses, the program includes diverse course options in East European and Slavic studies, history, sociology, anthropology and international relations. All courses will be taught in Russian.
* Compulsory Russian language courses, required by Daugavpils University, 18 ECTS total.
* Compulsory elective courses. The program provides a list of recommended courses. Students select at least 6 ECTS.
* Elective courses from the full course catalog, 6 ECTS total.
This is a program for majors in Russian language, literature, and culture. Russian is taught at levels from ACTFL Intermediate Mid up to Superior.
* Compulsory Russian language courses, required by Daugavpils University, 18 ECTS total.
* Compulsory elective courses. The program provides a list of recommended courses. Students have to select the required course credit worth at least 6 ECTS.
* Elective courses. Students are eligible to pick courses from the full course catalog, 6 ECTS total.
