About Program

This is a three weeks field school in a medieval castle in central Spain. Zorita castle was founded by the moorish in the IXth century. After the Christian reconquista it became one of the main fortresses for the other of the Calatrava knights, being its headquarters for some years. The excavations at the cemetery started four years ago offering excellent results. This year ArchaeoSpain team will be focus on the excavation of the older layers of the cemetery and on the anthropological study of the skeletons. The field work in the mornings will be completed by laboratory, seminars and workshops on the afternoons. The weekends will be for excursions to archaeological sites and historical cities like Toledo.
