Great for aspiring teachers, language lovers, and amateurs of French culture

Being a CapEnglish language assistant was everything I envisioned it to be.

It was fresh, fun, stimulating, and incredibly rewarding. The work I did in Aix-en-Provence felt constantly fulfilling and it was wonderful to know I was making an impact on the lives of the kids and adults I taught and connected with.

The CapEnglish team (Riana especially) help you every step of the way with valuable advice, feedback, tips and tricks and they do the really tough part for you (finding a trustworthy host family and good schools to work with). It's truly wonderful to be able to collaborate with a team that's so helpful and welcoming. You feel safe and supported enough to explore France to your heart's content.

The only caveat is: it's so great, it becomes hard to leave! Six months might fly by but fortunately, the memories will stay with you forever.

Working as an English Language Assistant with CAP English

Working as a teacher in France was an incredible experience for me. I initially went over just to improve my French, but while over there I found a great love for teaching and working with kids. Cap English provided me with great materials for each lesson, making the process much easier.

My host family was amazing, I bonded with them a lot and they were so supportive.

Cap English is a great program. They were always there when I had any questions and were always so accommodating if I was to ever become unwell/ unfit to work. Riana was incredible and I’ll always be thankful for her!

If you’re thinking about partaking in this, do it. I learned so much about myself and met so many great people along the way ☺️☺️

What was the most nerve-racking moment and how did you overcome it?
I somehow managed to get chickenpox while I was over there! I was bedridden for about a week. I felt so guilty because I wasn’t able to go to work. Riana and the team at Cap English were so understanding, telling me not to stress and take all the time I needed to recover
Pros
  • Practice your French
  • Only work 4 days a week!
  • Be creative and independent
Cons
  • Difficult if you don’t know some French as most people in the town spoke no English
  • The work can be taxing and tiresome

Language Assistant Program - Nimes

I was a language assistant with CapEnglish for 6 months in Nimes. I worked at a school there teaching kids from the ages of 4-10. I had approximately 20 contact hours a week. During that time I also stayed with a host family. Overall, it was an amazing experience. I really enjoyed my time both at the school and with my host family. I felt immersed in daily French life and even learnt a little French along the way! As long as you come with an open mind and are willing to face the challenges of living abroad, you'll have a great time! I recommend this program to anyone wanting to start teaching English abroad. Bonne courage!

Language Assistant

Teaching at the school was very enjoyable. I was nervous at first but the pupils were kind, well-behaved and engaged. You will grow attached to them so it was difficult leaving. The teachers were also helpful and quick to come to my aid if needed. Overall the school had a very nice atmosphere and I always finished my day feeling positive.
On days in which I was teaching the younger children (aged 4-8) alone for the Periscolaire group, I felt stressed as I could not control them at all. They were very different to the 10 to 11 year olds I was teaching as an assistant. The school didn't make me aware of how to deal with them ( even after contacting them many times) so I would recommend skipping this and going straight to CapEnglish who can contact the parents of the misbehaved children directly.

Pros
  • Explore a new city
  • Lots of language practice
  • Meeting new people from different country and culture
Cons
  • Teaching hours weren't consistent
  • Misunderstandings with host family

LA CapEnglish in Nîmes

I worked as the Language Assistant for Cap English in Nîmes for 3 months, it was one of the best experiences of my life. Cap English were great to work with and always ensured that their employees were happy and comfortable. They were so helpful during this whole process as it was my first time teaching and moving abroad. I felt fully supported and I would recommend this job to everyone! As well as that, the school is amazing with lovely teachers and the city is outstanding. Although I didn’t speak French, they were so welcoming and supportive. The children are amazing and eager to learn.

Experience Of A Lifetime :)

After having spent six amazing months working as a LA for CapEnglish, I couldn’t recommend the experience enough. Not only are you welcomed into France by a caring host family who provides all your meals and takes you on holiday, yet the five hours of work a day leave plenty of time for you to explore the city, meet other foreigners, and pursue your own hobbies. Assisting at the school and living with a French family helped me improve my language skills enormously, and I would even say I picked up more French while at work than at the language school. All the teachers at the school were incredibly patient, helpful and welcoming, and I felt accepted from the first moment. I would also like to thank both Riana and Al from CapEnglish for their constant support, and the effort and time they invested into making this experience possible. Whether you are keen on brushing up your French skills, living in a foreign country or just looking for a bit of fun: just do it! You will definitely not regret it.

Pros
  • Free accommodation/ meals
  • Fulfilling job
  • Lots of free time
Cons
  • No Visa support for travelers outside the EU
