Great Opportunity!

I've had the pleasure to work with Super English for the past several years and I can't say enough good things! Obviously I wouldn't have remained in Surat working at Thidamaepra if I didn't sincerely enjoy the school, children, and the overall experience. Working abroad can be tricky--I know there are a lot of ads out there promising everything under the sun, but Super English delivers. It all starts at the top--having a Western owner and Western managers has been a huge plus. It helped take away any concerns from day one and I've been able to grow both professionally and personally. One important note--this job is based in Surat town and not Koh Samui. However, the Thai people in Surat Thani town are genuine, curious to make foreigners one of their own, and generally great people!

I've taught in different counties and felt like I was there for comedic relief. Not a lot of responsibility, not a ton of interaction with the locals, and kind of just 'there.' Thidamaepra is an excellent chance to act as a CEO of your own classroom. Teaching multiple subjects to students each day requires personal accountability, determination, and focus, but the rewards are amazing! I've worked firsthand with the owner and he's done an amazing job of letting teachers run their 'own show' while also adding needed input and assistance where necessary. That's not too common in Thailand. The school itself is filled with wonderful students and there is a Thai teacher in every classroom. The support has been tremendous and funny how one year can turn into three or four at the same school! The biggest part for me was finding a team--you need that when uprooting life to come to a different country. I've seen a lot of teachers come and go (sometimes quickly) in Surat, but I proudly say a lot of our teachers stay on for multiple years.

Of course all work and no play makes for a boring life. Surat Thani town is very accessible to travel on either side of the country. I know I felt encouraged finding a good work/life balance--there are a ton of great things to do both in town and outside the city! The owner stressed that and fully supported that.

I could easily go on and on, but in short, if you're committed to the students, they'll be committed to you. You'll have all the tools needed to be successful and make your time in Surat an awesome experience!

What is your advice to future travelers on this program?
Surat's not a touristy town. Like mentioned above, a ton of travel options but isn't foreigner-heavy. Successful teachers have recognized that and balanced outside fun with commitment to the job.

A Rewarding Experience

I've worked as a teacher with Super English for three academic years and am currently teaching into my fourth. It has been an abundantly rewarding experience.

- Management, for me, is one of the biggest pros about SE. From the job offer to handling the sometimes-tricky visa process to teacher training and beyond Peter has always been available, supportive, and more than happy to answer any questions or concerns quickly. He has consistently demonstrated he is accommodating with any bumps that may arise be it in Thailand or at home.
- The community of teachers at SE is a joy and entertaining to work with. It's easy to see they love their job and are having fun doing it. And that is infectious.
- The freedom granted to me in how I teach my class is invaluable. I create the lesson and the quizzes/exams. There are a lot of science projects. The kids love them.
- Paperwork is minimal (a set of monthly reports covering in bullet format what was taught for each subject and a run down of vocabulary words). This allows for more time to concentrate on grading and lessons.
- The students are awesome, goofy, kind, helpful, characters, jokesters, inquisitive, and mischievous. This makes it not only a new adventure daily with my kiddos but it's hard for me to consider this "work" in the traditional sense when I get to walk into my class and have fun with them as well
