Teach in a rural community in Cambodia, close to the border with Thailand. This is a unique project where you will get to experience the 'real' Cambodia and live like a local. Teach in an informal way, through games, activities and helping the childrens conversational skills in English.

painting

Help on construction projects for local buildings and schools which may not have the funding for repairs and maintenance. You can help out at the local school, updating and renovating the buildings or get involved in creating garden spaces for the community. For those without prior tradesmen skills, you can get involved in painting murals and sanding walls, etc.

with farmers

Work at an Agri-Tech learning centre, engaging with farmers about the importance of sustainable farming methods and alternative farming practices. Work out in the field, as well as educating the local community!

mangroves

The aim of this project is to conserve mangrove plantations. The objective is to reverse the trend of removing mangrove sites, which has seen a rapid increase during recent years as local salt farms have taken precedence.

Cambodia - school Siem Reap

The people were very welcoming. The local team arranged for everything, from pick-up over transport and accommodation to food, very well. It's so nice to see the eagerness of the children to learn. The children (and people in general) are so polite, respectful and joyful. Great to see them open up to you when they get their trust and confidence. As mentioned above, the local team coordinated, supported, communicated, facilitated in a superb way! , I do understand that this might be difficult, but it would help the volunteers to prepare methods/tools/games/.

Cambodia - English Teaching

I loved working with the children every single day. The children never failed to be polite and enthusiastic about their learning. They were a dream to teach by always wanting to improve and to better their understanding.

The teachers at the school were friendly and helpful. The town was a lovely place to live for 2 months. I felt that I really got to know the local people and to embed myself in the culture!
The team were friendly and helpful. The food was healthy and delicious. We had 3 cooked Khmer meals a day. The accommodation was comfortable although hot showers would have been nice!

Cambodia rural primary teaching

I highly enjoyed our trip to Cambodia, it was the most special and rewarding experience of my life. My favourite memories were during class breaks playing games with the students and local teachers. Volunteering was hard work but the most rewarding and enjoyable experience I've ever had.

Our local coordinator Borin was incredibly helpful and friendly, he made us feel so safe and supported. The local teachers were all amazing and kind and we enjoyed getting to know them all. The cook we had was amazing and she was also lovely, the food was delicious.

Thanks for all your help Lauren

Thank you! The highlight of my trip was definitely the children. They were the happiest most friendly kids, they made my trip so special! A favourite moment was when we poured water into the dirt and built sandcastles to pretend we were in Australia! They loved it – I was so sad to say goodbye to them.

The team were lovely and so accommodating. There was a great variance of food – I particularly loved the mangoes so delicious!! The hammocks were awesome for an afternoon relax and I very much enjoyed riding the bikes to school every day. Overall I was very happy with the my stay and can’t think of any improvements – amazing experience I didn’t want to leave!!

Pros
  • the children
Cons
  • no aircon was a little tough but it was all part of the experience!
