About Program

With a population of 23.7 million people, Cameroon is strategically positioned at the crossroads of West and Central Africa. Over the past decades, the country has enjoyed economic growth as well as relative peace and stability in a sub-region troubled by conflict and crisis.

Despite this, nearly 40 percent of Cameroon’s population still live below the poverty line and human development indicators remain low. Classified as lower-middle-income, the country ranks 153 out 0f 188 according to the 2015 Human Development Index. The 2015 Global Hunger Index (GHI) ranks Cameroon 68 out of 106 with a score of 24.2, placing it in the “serious” severity level of hunger.

The agricultural sector has the greatest potential in driving economic growth and reducing poverty and hunger. The Food 4 Health program with projects like Food Bank Cameroon is a Denis Miki Foundation (DMF) project to fight against hunger. Join the DMF Team let's reduce hunger by signing up as a Volunteer with DMF today.

Consider your impact: Volunteering abroad can be a rewarding experience for both volunteers and local communities, and at Go Overseas, we believe all volunteers should have the resources to make informed decisions about the type of volunteer project they want to partake in. However, despite best intentions, some organizations offering placements in orphanages may unknowingly place children in danger. You can read about the potential dangers of orphanage volunteering here.

Volunteering with DMF is Life Changing

I took my gap year to Cameroon and volunteered with the Denis Miki Foundation and had a life changing experience with them and their partners. It was an opportunity to learn the culture of the Cameroonian people while supporting projects that helped orphans and less privileged children and families in their education and wellbeing. I was also able to support youth leadership and empowerment programs implemented by Denis Miki Foundation and her partner NGOs, government institutions and diplomatic missions.
