About Program

This is an ideal position for those looking for hands-on teaching experience, cultural immersion and the opportunity to make a lasting positive impact on Colombian youth.

Domino Volunteers works with English teachers at public schools across the city of Cartagena, who are doing an amazing job despite the countless factors often working against them: severely limited school resources, over-crowded classrooms, national strikes, etc. We connect volunteers to teachers based on interests, location, and where we believe you will be able to grow as an educational professional as well. Volunteers will serve as teaching assistants, responsible for tasks such as: co-teaching, developing lesson plans, reviewing homework, creating activities if you feel confident, etc.

You would likely be the only volunteer at the school, although it is very easy to meet other volunteers in your free time and with other activities that our team at Domino Volunteers regularly organize.

Consider your impact: Volunteering abroad can be a rewarding experience for both volunteers and local communities, and at Go Overseas, we believe all volunteers should have the resources to make informed decisions about the type of volunteer project they want to partake in. However, despite best intentions, some organizations offering placements in orphanages may unknowingly place children in danger. You can read about the potential dangers of orphanage volunteering here.

  • Enjoy Cartagena's diverse range of fun activities with the local community, from movie clubs and zumba classes, to kitesurfing and scuba diving.
  • Bask in the vibrant culture and tropical surroundings of Cartagena, a beautiful historic city on the Caribbean coast.

Program Impact

We strive toward positive social impact and mutual benefit for both the volunteers and partnering organizations benefiting from the exchange. We get to know our volunteers and connect them to organizations where their skills are most needed and they will thrive personally. The organizations benefit from much needed physical and intellectual resources and our volunteers grow in empathy and global citizenship. Our connections have a domino effect of positive impact: local organizations have the capacity to reach more people and our volunteers spread new found empathy and global perspectives to their home communities and workplaces.
