A weekly fee of $50 supports the Sumak Kawsay Yachay (SKY) Foundation's activities. As a nonprofit, SKY relies on volunteer fees and donations to cover essential expenses such as food, WiFi, utilities, rent, and water. Volunteers receive sheets, blankets, and three meals daily, and they participate in cooking and maintaining kitchen cleanliness, fostering a communal atmosphere.

Accommodation is provided at Hosteria Pachamama, which offers a supportive environment with clear guidelines for harmonious living. On weekends, volunteers can explore the area or relax at Pachamama, enjoying local festivals and celebrations.

About Program

The Sumak Kawsay Yachay (SKY) Foundation is a pioneering initiative in Salasaca, Ecuador, providing the first English education program specifically for Kichwa speakers. Established by an Indigenous Kichwa woman, SKY uniquely combines language education with cultural preservation, ensuring that students not only learn English but also value and maintain their native language.

Our volunteer-driven approach fosters a deep connection between educators and the community, promoting mutual learning and respect. What sets SKY apart is our commitment to sustainable education, having operated for over two decades through the dedication of our founder and community support.
