About Program
The Sumak Kawsay Yachay (SKY) Foundation is a pioneering initiative in Salasaca, Ecuador, providing the first English education program specifically for Kichwa speakers. Established by an Indigenous Kichwa woman, SKY uniquely combines language education with cultural preservation, ensuring that students not only learn English but also value and maintain their native language.
Our volunteer-driven approach fosters a deep connection between educators and the community, promoting mutual learning and respect. What sets SKY apart is our commitment to sustainable education, having operated for over two decades through the dedication of our founder and community support. By joining SKY, volunteers become part of a transformative experience, empowering Indigenous youth and contributing to the enrichment of their cultural and linguistic heritage.
