About Program

We have found the lack of an adequate number of staff in schools very problematic. The ratio of one teacher per number of students can be quite overwhelming. We aim to bridge this gap by recruiting as many volunteers as we can to help in the understaffed schools. Volunteers are not here to replace teachers but rather work hand in hand to shape the future of the next generation.

Volunteers will work together with local teachers in the schools to take care of the students. Volunteers are advised to bring smart casual clothing. Volunteers should expect a dedicated and committed team here that is ready to go the extra mile to make sure your stay in Ghana is every bit as memorable as they imagined it to be. We in turn expect volunteers to take their volunteering very seriously. We are available to be called upon 24/7 when need be. Join our ever-growing family and you will be glad you did.

Ghana experience

I was in Ghana last year (2024) with RisingSun Volunteers. From the beginning when I made up my mind and contacted them, they made their very best efforts to assist me with all my pressing questions and I did have lot but they took their time to explain into details all that I asked. I was picked up from the airport on time and in the evening before we got to the accommodation, had a little drive through the city. I thought it was not a busy city, but was I wrong. In the morning when we were on the city tour, it was sooo full. I was a bit in shock but then also the team made sure I was ok with the experience and didn't rush me through it.

The project in the school was very nice and very glad I volunteered there. The school staff and students were very friendly and accommodating. I made many friends that I still keep in touch with till this day. I already have plans to visit again in the not too distant future, and oh, I love the food in Ghana. I took a few recipes with me back home.

Pros
  • meeting volunteers from other countries
  • the Ghanaian food
  • the lifestyle and culture in Ghana
Cons
  • maybe time management but that I learned later is a Ghanaian thing

Volunteer your time. Make a difference.

I had a truly rewarding experience while volunteering. The staff and fellow volunteers were exceptionally warm and encouraging. Although I wish I could have extended my stay, the two weeks I spent there allowed me to see the remarkable impact the charity was having on children's lives. It was captivating to immerse myself in a completely different culture and lifestyle by working with the charity during the week and dedicating my weekends to exploring various locations in Ghana.

My overall summary is that the experience was amazing. It was a pleasure to work with a very self aware NGO who really did wish the best for the people they were helping. Also meeting so many wonderful people whether that be the staff, locals or other volunteers was incredible and I have formed some lifelong relationships.

Exciting Ghana moment with RisingSun Volunteers

I spent two months in Ghana during the summer. The local team is exceptional; they are always willing to assist, making it easy to approach them with any questions or concerns, which they address promptly. The work environment is excellent, offering flexibility in the activities you choose to engage in.

I recommend considering all the activities you wish to conduct with the children and ensuring you bring any necessary materials. Additionally, it would be beneficial to reach out to the team to inquire about their available supplies or to seek advice on what to do and avoid in the school setting.

The summer school experience was wonderful, allowing us the freedom to shape it according to our preferences. The food was enjoyable, and assistance was provided in preparing some traditional Ghanaian dishes.
