About Program

In many of the communities where Volunteering Journeys operates, women face limited access to education, digital skills, employment opportunities, and financial independence. Social norms, economic barriers, and restricted mobility create additional challenges. The Women’s Empowerment Program is designed to address these gaps by offering safe spaces for women to learn, grow, communicate, and build valuable skills that support their personal development and long-term opportunities.

Volunteering Journeys’ Women’s Empowerment Program combines English teaching, digital literacy, life skills training, and vocational development. These sessions are designed not only to improve practical abilities but also to boost the overall confidence of women who may never have had access to formal education or global exposure. While the program is community-led and supported by local coordinators, volunteers bring energy, encouragement, and global exposure.

Program Highlights

Wonderful Experience in Kerala

Working with Volunteering Journeys was a wonderful experience. Loved every minute of it. The staff, the volunteers and participants all made it an unforgettable experience. The accommodation was very sufficient and the food was authentic and yummy. I loved getting to know everyone. The Women's Empowerment program was as enriching for me as it was for the participants. The volunteers all pitched in to do their parts and as a result we provided wonderful lessons. Outings were organized so that we could enjoy the country and culture of Kerala.

Ridhi Patel, the founder, is quite the amazing person. Besides this organization, she is also owns a sustainable swimwear design company called Cocopalms. If you volunteer there make sure to ask to see the swimwear. I would love to go back and stay

What was the most surprising thing you saw or did?
Learning and practicing how to eat with your hands.

Teaching in Fort Kochi

I had an amazing experience in Fort Kochi, Kerala, South India. I taught English in two different government schools, working with children aged 8 to 11. The pupils were so responsive and welcoming and it was a joy to be part of a local school community.

The volunteer house was super and I felt at home straight away, under the support and guidance of a really strong team of local staff, who were always on hand to deal with any issues or to suggest local sights to see. The accommodation was comfortable and meals provided were so tasty and lovingly cooked by local staff members.

This is an excellent way to visit a country and experience it from the inside. I will definitely be looking to do it again in the not too distant future.

If you did this all over again, what's one thing you would change?
Next time i would stay for longer.
Pros
  • Meet incredible local staff
  • Taste the wonderful Kerala food
  • Lovely children in the schools
Cons
  • It's very hot all the time
  • Make sure the water is filtered
