About Program

In recent times, the medication available for HIV sufferers has increased greatly, but these advances rarely reach those in most need in Kenya. Agape Volunteers works with local projects which help to combat this issue, and we need volunteers to help with this most valuable volunteering work.

Agape's HIV volunteers in Kenya work in local clinics and community projects performing testing, counselling patients, and helping HIV education programs. This work brings some obvious challenges, but Agape is also proud to provide our volunteers with the opportunity to participate in the internationally recognised HIV Testing and Counselling (HTC) course. The HTC provides its participants with the required knowledge to ensure that testing is carried out safely and effectively, whilst also providing training in counselling and community awareness.

This program is popular with those who wish to help out in a genuinely effective volunteer program whilst learning valuable skills themselves.

Program Impact

We're proud that Agape's work in Kenya has already had an enormous impact on the local communities we work with, and you can be a great help in continuing this good work. As an HIV volunteer in Kenya you will have a really positive impact on people living with HIV, as well as communities trying to recover from the disease. But the best thing about volunteering? You get to come and see first-hand the impact you can make!

Volunteering in Kenya

Loving working with everybody :-) would recommend this to anyone thinking of volunteering! We did a combination of nursing and childcare volunteering over a number of weeks in Kenya. All the staff were very professional and friendly and we felt safe at all times. I really felt like we were making a difference and that Agape was focused on helping the local community, which is what I was looking for. The additional trips are really fun and would absolutely suggest taking a safari! We did the three day safari and we saw all the animals we wanted to and it was incredibly cheap (the extra trips are also run by Agape staff). The accommodation is basic but kept very clean and there is plenty of food at all times in the volunteer house. If you really want to make a difference when you volunteer then this is the trip for you!

What would you improve about this program?
When I was was there were lots of volunteers which meant that it could be quite crowded at times. There was enough work for everyone just so many people around!
