About Program

On the teaching programme, you will have the chance to assist teachers in schools or teach your own classes if you feel comfortable. You will mainly teach English or Mathematics but if you are competent in another subject then you would be very welcome to teach your subject. School classes start at 9:00am and finish by 3:00pm.

The children will be grade 1 – 4 (year 7 – 11). Volunteers will be placed, depending on your wishes, in schools or orphanages which have schools attached to them. Orphanages will often have a minimum of 70 children and some will not have a school attached to them, however, if you would like to be a part of educating these children then you can also run classes for them. Teaching styles and schools will likely be very different to what you have grown up with. Therefore, to ensure the best experience for you as a volunteer and for the children you will be teaching, we ask that you participate on this program for a minimum of 2 weeks.

Consider your impact: Volunteering abroad can be a rewarding experience for both volunteers and local communities, and at Go Overseas, we believe all volunteers should have the resources to make informed decisions about the type of volunteer project they want to partake in. However, despite best intentions, some organizations offering placements in orphanages may unknowingly place children in danger. You can read about the potential dangers of orphanage volunteering here.
