About Program

If you're looking for the ultimate African volunteering safari, then we invite you to join African Impact's wildlife conservation research team and expert field guides in the most iconic South African game reserves. Be prepared for an up-close and memorable encounter with the famous African Big 5 - lion, elephant, leopard, buffalo, and rhino - and help monitor, study, and protect these endangered species.

This is our most popular volunteer project in Africa perfect for aspiring conservationists or zoologists, nature enthusiasts, and wildlife lovers. This program allows you to be fully immersed into the African bush to observe and gather data which are vital for the protection of these at-risk species and conservation of the most beautiful wildlife.

Diversity & Inclusion 💙

African Impact strictly adheres to a non-discrimination policy that prohibits any form of bias or discrimination based on race, color or ethnicity within our projects. We have a code of conduct which all volunteers are required to follow, and we welcome all volunteers who are interested in creating a lasting impact in Africa.
African Impact prides itself on being an inclusive organization, and we welcome all members of the LGBTQIA+ community to join our projects. We have a strict non-discrimination policy, and all volunteers and staff are required to follow a code of conduct that ensures all participants are treated with respect.

Impact 🌎

Ensuring that our projects are making a viable impact in local communities and contribute sustainably to conservation is our priority. We believe that volunteering is very much a two-way thing which brings value to both the local people and wildlife and the volunteers themselves, who benefit from an authentic cultural exchange and knowledge transfer about a new country, its environment and threats facing its animals.
Responsible travel is about travellers making informed and responsible choices, and planning trips which have a positive impact on the country they’re visiting. Through careful planning, we seek to have a positive and sustainable impact on the social, cultural and physical environment at each of our project bases.

Our Child Protection Policy has been vetted and approved by Keeping Children Safe (KCS), who represent a commitment by organizations worldwide to safeguard all children from exploitation, abuse and violations of their human rights.

Program Impact

WILDLIFE RESEARCH SAFARI DRIVES
Venture into the African bush on daily volunteer safari drives in search of the Big 5 species and other iconic African wildlife. You will monitor wild animals and collect vital data.

These safari drives will also give you a chance to experience the wonders of the African bush and go on private safaris in the most beautiful reserves in the Greater Kruger Park area in South Africa.

PHYSICAL CONSERVATION WORK
Physical conservation work is a vital part of volunteer wildlife conservation program (and a lot more fun than you would think it would be), so you will have plenty of opportunities to get your hands dirty on foot in the African bush amongst the wild animals natural habitat.

RESEARCH AND ANALYSIS
You will work alongside our experienced team of wildlife conservation research experts and help to compile data of the wild animals encountered into reports, maps, and up to date profiles (ID kits). The techniques you will learn about doing this volunteer work include analyzing whisker patterns, scars, and ear notches to understand and distinguish individual animals.
