About Program
Mellon Educate is a small charity that builds classrooms and other infrastructure in some of the most deprived township primary schools in South Africa. For over ten years we have been transforming learning environments for thousands of children, providing well-built, beautiful classrooms, kitchens, loos and play areas, to give these little ones the chance of a better education and future.
Every year, a wonderful army of incredible volunteers travel to Cape Town for a one-week "Building Blitz" where they work on a school site: all ages, tradespeople and non-tradespeople. No previous building experience required just a willingness to muck in! As a volunteer you can choose to paint, block lay, plaster, or lay bricks...you can also enjoy time in a literacy hub helping children learn to read.
You will work hard but the jokes, team spirit, new friendships and sense of achievement is guaranteed to last a lifetime.
