Program Highlights

  • Help elephants in the wild live peacefully with the community
  • Research bears, leopards and other wildlife to support their conservation
  • Live in beautiful rural Sri Lanka in the volunteer house

Program Impact

The local team has a limited reach, so volunteers are an important asset providing resource to assist the monitoring, research and data collection of the wildlife in the area, which helps to protect it for future generations. The team research the elephant herd dynamics and record the elephant’s behaviour which is vital as little is known about elephant behaviour and biology. Understanding the ecological requirements of local wildlife including the sloth bear, leopard, rusty-spotted cat, fishing cat, jungle cat, golden palm civet, and Sri Lankan jackal is essential for future conservation.

Beautiful Experience

My experience as a volunteer in Sri Lanka was probably the best experience I have had abroad in the last years. The people of the project is amazing, they care about the animals, they care about the people and they care about you, they want you to be happy. The job done in the organization is varies a lot, an can be from planting trees to make sand traps and to observe the elephants. The job is much related with animals and nature and you will spend a lot of time in the jungle and you really feel that you are helping to diminish the human-elephant conflict.

What is your advice to future travelers on this program?
Bring your camera, rain coat and all your energy because you are going to work hard to help the local communities and the elephants!
