About Program

Join us in our dolphin and marine conservation initiatives as you uncover the mesmerizing tropical bliss of Zanzibar! Your significant contribution as a volunteer will make an impact on the dolphin tourism sustainability. You will take part in monitoring human-dolphin interactions and promoting ethical dolphin tours to ensure the safety of these intelligent creatures during man and boat encounters.

Marine life has such an important economic value to the local communities of Zanzibar and by protecting it we can build for a more sustainable future for both wildlife and the people of Zanzibar. This is your chance to make a lasting impact on the survival of a fragile marine ecosystem while living footsteps from the warm India Ocean.

Diversity & Inclusion 💙

African Impact strictly adheres to a non-discrimination policy that prohibits any form of bias or discrimination based on race, color or ethnicity within our projects. We have a code of conduct which all volunteers are required to follow, and we welcome all volunteers who are interested in creating a lasting impact in Africa.
African Impact prides itself on being an inclusive organization, and we welcome all members of the LGBTQIA+ community to join our projects. We have a strict non-discrimination policy, and all volunteers and staff are required to follow a code of conduct that ensures all participants are treated with respect.

Impact 🌎

Ensuring that our projects are making a viable impact in local communities and contribute sustainably to conservation is our priority. We believe that volunteering is very much a two-way thing which brings value to both the local people and wildlife and the volunteers themselves, who benefit from an authentic cultural exchange and knowledge transfer about a new country, its environment and threats facing its animals.
Responsible travel is about travellers making informed and responsible choices, and planning trips which have a positive impact on the country they’re visiting. Through careful planning, we seek to have a positive and sustainable impact on the social, cultural and physical environment at each of our project bases.

Our Child Protection Policy has been vetted and approved by Keeping Children Safe (KCS), who represent a commitment by organizations worldwide to safeguard all children from exploitation, abuse and violations of their human rights.

Program Impact

Dolphins:
As a volunteer, you’ll go out to sea daily to search for pods of dolphins and collect valuable data. We work with the local government to monitor human-dolphin interactions, and research dolphin behaviour, abundance and distribution to help formulate ethical policies to regulate dolphin tourism for the benefit of both the dolphins and the communities that rely on them for income.

Coral Monitoring:
You’ll spend time snorkelling in the warm waters collecting vital data on coral reef health, including the progression or regression of coral bleaching on the surface area of the reef, as well as the identification of coral species, and monitoring of tourist activities.

Conservation Awareness and Education:
Education is a vital part of conservation. You will help educate local school children the importance of their natural environment, how to look after it and how to sustainably utilize their marine resources in a fun and engaging manner at an after school club.
