About Program

Help the community reforestation activities by establishing tree nurseries and planting trees as well as educating kids in school about proper environment conservation.

Tanzania like a lot of sub-Saharan Africa is experiencing the effects of climate change with irregular seasons and forest areas gradually turning into Savannah and desert grassland. Already this has had a huge impact on the variety and population of various species across a once thriving rainforest zone.

During your placement depending on the stage/time of year, you will be packing and growing seedlings, joining in tree planting, setting up seedling patches, and delivering training to local schools as well as being involved in the agriculture office's educational outreach programs to ensure communities and in particular schools are being briefed on the disadvantages and impact deforestation is having on Tanzania and the region as a whole.

Program Impact

Who Do We Help?

We are primarily focusing on helping and improving the lives of the Arusha with a population of around 535,000. The most common occupation of people is tourism, traders and Farmers which often bring the income scale. Day to day life in the remote villages can be tough with no electricity in areas, no running water however their positivity and enthusiasm for education will put a smile on anyone's face. Our main decision for basing in this area is during our first time volunteering we fell in love with the place, people and the way of life which we hope that many more people can come and experience our home away from home.

A Remarkable Journey in Environmental Conservation with VoSTA in Tanzania

I recently had the privilege of participating in an environmental conservation project facilitated by VoSTA in Tanzania, and I am thrilled to share my overwhelmingly positive experience.

From the outset, VoSTA demonstrated an unwavering commitment to preserving Tanzania's natural beauty and fostering sustainable practices. The project I was involved in was meticulously planned, addressing critical environmental issues while promoting community involvement and awareness.

One of the standout aspects of VoSTA's approach is their focus on collaboration. The organization works closely with local communities, government bodies, and environmental experts to create initiatives that are both impactful and culturally sensitive. This collaborative effort ensures that the projects align with the needs and aspirations of the community, promoting a sense of ownership and responsibility among the locals.

The hands-on experience of the conservation project was both educational and inspiring. Under the guidance of dedicated VoSTA coordinators, our team actively participated in initiatives such as reforestation, waste management, and environmental education programs. These activities not only contributed to tangible improvements in the local ecosystem but also empowered community members with the knowledge and tools to continue these efforts independently.

VoSTA's emphasis on education played a pivotal role in making the project sustainable. The organization conducted informative sessions that not only raised awareness about environmental issues but also provided practical solutions for everyday challenges. Witnessing the positive response from the community, especially the youth, was truly gratifying.

Moreover, VoSTA's commitment to responsible volunteering practices was evident throughout the project. They provided thorough training, ensuring that volunteers understood the local context and the significance of their actions. The transparency in resource management and the ethical treatment of volunteers further underscored VoSTA's dedication to fostering a positive and impactful volunteer experience.

In conclusion, my time with VoSTA in Tanzania was a transformative experience. The organization's holistic approach to environmental conservation, coupled with their emphasis on community collaboration, left an indelible mark on both the landscape and the people. I wholeheartedly recommend VoSTA to anyone seeking to contribute meaningfully to environmental conservation while experiencing the beauty of Tanzania.

Thank you, VoSTA, for being a beacon of change and for creating opportunities for volunteers to make a real difference in the world.
