Consider your impact: Volunteering abroad can be a rewarding experience for both volunteers and local communities, and at Go Overseas, we believe all volunteers should have the resources to make informed decisions about the type of volunteer project they want to partake in. However, despite best intentions, some organizations offering placements in orphanages may unknowingly place children in danger. You can read about the potential dangers of orphanage volunteering here.

Volunteering with Team Vista - A Truly Rewarding Experience

In July 2014, I volunteered with Team Vista in Moshi, Tanzania, for 5 weeks. It was truly an incredible experience and I feel I gained a lot, both personally and professionally. It was so great being able to work closely with the locals and develop friendships with so many.

The work was varied and interesting. I assisted with maintenance work at the secondary school (re-concreting floors, fixing furniture, etc.), spent time with the beautiful children at the Children's Home and also did some investigation work for an upcoming project for the organisation.

I found my experience incredibly rewarding, and am very grateful for the opportunity to work with Team Vista. Tanzania is a beautiful place and the people are amazing, so warm and welcoming. Definitely highly recommend visiting, and what better way to do it than with Team Vista!!

What would you improve about this program?
There is not much structure to the program, but to be honest I don't think this is necessarily a bad thing. There is no one telling you what to do each day; this program requires the person to take initiative and identify what tasks could be done to most benefit the people. This forced me out of my comfort zone and ultimately made the experience so much more rewarding.
