About Program

While staying at the Old Moshi Hostel, volunteers/interns have the opportunity to work on a wide variety of community development projects while testing themselves, learning about different cultures, and most importantly making a lasting impact on the local community. Our goal is to make a long-term difference in people's lives by allowing them to make a significant impact in Moshi's community through their work.

In this program, you will be volunteering at the Msamaria Children's Home which is an orphanage in Moshi that provides a home for street children. You will provide essential childcare, play with the children, teach them, and perform any other duties that might be needed from you during your stay. Furthermore, you will have the opportunity to also volunteer at the Moshi Street Kids Soccer Academy (Moskisa), where you will teach languages to kids to improve their professional outlooks.

Consider your impact: Volunteering abroad can be a rewarding experience for both volunteers and local communities, and at Go Overseas, we believe all volunteers should have the resources to make informed decisions about the type of volunteer project they want to partake in. However, despite best intentions, some organizations offering placements in orphanages may unknowingly place children in danger. You can read about the potential dangers of orphanage volunteering here.

Amazing time in Tanzania

Last year, I had the incredible opportunity to volunteer at Seeds of Kindness in Tanzania. From the moment I arrived, I felt welcomed and at home. The hostel was clean and comfortable, and the staff were incredibly friendly and helpful. I felt like I was part of the family.

The food at the hostel was amazing! It was fresh, delicious, and there was always plenty to eat. I was never hungry during my stay.

My main responsibility at the orphanage was to spend time with the children. I played games with them, danced with them, and taught them English. It was so rewarding to see the smiles on their faces and to know that I was making a difference in their lives.

I also had the opportunity to help out with some other tasks at the orphanage, such as cleaning and preparing meals. I was happy to do anything I could to help.

My time at Seeds of Kindness was truly life-changing. I learned so much about myself and about the world. I also made some amazing friends that I will never forget.

I would highly recommend volunteering to anyone who is looking for a meaningful and rewarding experience. It was an experience that I will cherish for the rest of my life.

What is your advice to future travelers on this program?
-Be prepared to adapt to a new culture and way of life.
-Be patient and understanding with the children.
-Be willing to learn new things.
-Be open to new experiences.
-Have fun!

Volunteer at MsMaria orphanage

I went with my wife and six more friends, and we host at Old Moshi Hostel where they welcomed us like a good family for all the week that we spend there. Our proposals was to help around 90 children's at MsMaria Orphanage in very poor conditions by feeding them with proteins, giving them al sorts of medicines and a joint venture with the hospital thanks to Eve Mary and Fathers Joshep so they can be healthiest. It's a great experience that make us grow as person that we continue doing in the distance and missing our new African family.

What was your funniest moment?
When we dance African music with the Hostel staff. They've got the rhythm in the blood, not like us. Lol.
Pros
  • Child's happiness
  • Meeting new great people
  • Personal growing
Cons
  • A lot of work to do in the Orphanage
