About Program
Thailand's elephants are revered by most. They're also a large source of income for families and communities who fight a daily struggle just to eat. Because of that, sadly, many elephants are poorly treated. Their owners (referred to as 'mahouts') are often forced to sell their elephants to trekking camps or to street beggars who will then force the elephants to work very long hours in very hot temperatures either dodging traffic, or carrying unsuspecting tourists in very heavy steel saddles. This, coupled with poor care, always results in a horrific life for the elephants and something needs to be done.
Trunk is delighted to be working alongside a brand new initiative in Thailand, called The Elephant Care Project that has been set up with the help and advice of experts in this field to ensure a sustainable program that offers a safe, healthy and long-loving life for elephants rescued from this horrific industry and we need you to help.
