About Program

Volunteers work out of our drop-in-center located in Kisenyi, one of Kampala's largest slums.

Every day we offer classes for the boys to prepare them for success when they integrate back into society. Volunteers will be expected to lead classes throughout the week in the following: Dance, drama, music, arts and crafts lessons - which enable the boys to express themselves and help with rehabilitation. English and math classes - to prepare the boys to enter the workforce or operate their own businesses. Computer lessons - to open up a whole world of opportunities for the boys and the potential to secure well-paying jobs.

Consider your impact: Volunteering abroad can be a rewarding experience for both volunteers and local communities, and at Go Overseas, we believe all volunteers should have the resources to make informed decisions about the type of volunteer project they want to partake in. However, despite best intentions, some organizations offering placements in orphanages may unknowingly place children in danger. You can read about the potential dangers of orphanage volunteering here. Learn more about how Shule Foundation, Inc. is promoting ethical volunteering.

Program Highlights

  • Live outside your comfort zone, while doing something good.
  • Experience the Pearl of Africa and visit places local do not even go to.
  • Encourage boys living on the streets to leave street and prepare them for the challenge.
  • Mentor and empower boys to grow up to become gentlemen.

Program Impact

Just showing our kids kindness has a positive impact on the boys. That, combined with their new skills, will assist them in transitioning from street life to real-life successfully. That is the impact of volunteering with Shule.
