About Program

On September 26, Hurricane Helene made a historic landfall, becoming the first Category 4 hurricane to hit Florida's Big Bend since record-keeping began in 1851. The storm struck near Perry, Florida, just southwest of Tallahassee, around 11 PM.

Hurricane Helene brought devastating impacts to North Carolina, particularly in the western and central regions. Torrential rain caused severe flash flooding, washing away entire neighborhoods and cutting off communities from essential services. Landslides blocked roadways, further isolating affected areas, while powerful winds knocked down trees and damaged infrastructure. Several regions are still struggling with limited access to power, clean water, and communication services. All Hands and Hearts has been working on the ground, helping clear debris, conduct muck and gut operations, and assess homes for damage. Volunteer on our Hurricane Helene Relief program today.

Great Experience with AHAH

I have volunteered with All Hands and Hearts, twice now. Both experiences were in Western North Carolina, after Helene. I felt safe, at all times. I also felt like we were doing, great work. I have really enjoyed meeting the staff, from all over the world, as well as volunteers from all over the country. I hope to be able to join AHAH for other projects in other parts of the US, and maybe in another country, someday. I especially love how transparent that this particular charity is, with the money that is collected. 95% of what is donated, goes directly to the projects that they are working on. Another great thing is, that they will commit to being in a disaster area for a minimum of one year. So, they stick around. I cannot say enough wonderful things about them. Just sad that I only learned about them, 2 months ago.

What is your advice to future travelers on this program?
Ring extra clothes, if you aren’t staying on base. Some of the work can get pretty dirty. Also, do not wear clothes that you care about ruining.
