Winery Internship

I am Attila from Hungary who got a big help from Adelante Abroad. I went to Chile to accomplish my winery internship.
After several study trips abroad, I can confidently say that everything went smoothly with Adelante Abroad. I didn't have to worry about important documents and they literally took care of everything for me.

The winery Casas del Bosque, much more than I expected. Chilean wines are excellent, worth visiting the wineries.
Chile, because of its longines, has many beautiful places and the people are kind.

Thanks!

Best Experience of My Life!

This was one of the best experiences of my life as not only was Madrid itself one of the best cities I've ever been to, but the internship experience was one of the best intern/company experiences I've had. My internship was in sports and as it is one of the most difficult opportunities and career sectors to find opportunities in, I was nervous about how detailed/good my intern role would be. But it went above and beyond. I had the opportunity to learn new skills and be in a role that not only helped me strengthen my resume, but also gave me the confidence to be able to now go out in the job market and know I have the skillset to compete with other job applicants. Furthermore, my fellow interns, coworkers, and managers were some of the best people to work with and were always a reliable source to go to when I needed help or had questions.

Outside the internship, the apartment I stayed in was very well kept, clean, and in the best location within the city center. The only con was that the stovetop had a burner that did not function. But all other appliances that you could need were provided in both kitchen and room.

Overall, the internship and life experience provided me with some of the best times of my life. Both in career and social life.

If you did this all over again, what's one thing you would change?
The one thing I would change is my confidence/outgoing-ness at the beginning of my internship. Moving to another country, speaking a different language, and being a long way from home for such an extended period of time is very nerve-wracking and it caused me to not be as outgoing and confident in getting out of my comfort zone at the very beginning of the internship. When I finally did feel comfortable and more confident, I felt as though it was later into the experience than I wanted. If I could go back, I would tell myself to push myself out of my comfort zone, take on the new tasks, volunteer to complete the "scary" projects, and explore the city with more confidence and extroverted-ness a lot sooner because the experience, and the 3 months, goes by faster than you think it will.
Pros
  • Location of apartment and walkability to work, historic locations/landmarks, shopping centers, etc.
  • Internship placement and ability to be proactive and learn new skills within the sports industry
  • Ability to connect with and network with other interns, coworkers, and locals.
Cons
  • Some apartment appliances are different/"outdated" compared to what someone may be used to in a country like the United States.

Self Confidence Growing

Montevideo is a small and relaxed city, but not knowing anyone when I landed was definitely anxiety-inducing. However, my host family showed me around the city, and it was great to know that I could overcome things that once scared me! Everyone in Montevideo is incredibly kind, and multiple people were happy to reach out and offer help if I should need it. There were many trials and error such as getting a bus card in Spanish, learning how to ride the actual bus, navigating the 20 floor hospital I interned in, simply crossing the street, and learning the names of groceries in another language. At times it was difficult, but going outside of my comfort zone is what helped me to grow my confidence in myself knowing that I was able to accomplish these small but necessary daily tasks in another country.

What is your advice to future travelers on this program?
Don't be afraid to meet new people and go out and explore the city!
Pros
  • Growth
  • Beautiful city
  • New friends!
Cons
  • Dangerous areas
  • More boring than some other cities

Clinicals in Seville

Participating in my program in Seville was one of the most formative experiences of my academic and personal life. From the moment I arrived, it was clear that this program was intentionally designed not only to immerse students in Spanish language and culture, but also to foster independence, adaptability, and meaningful engagement with the local community. Seville itself is a city rich in history, warmth, and character, and the program leveraged this setting exceptionally well to create an experience that was both challenging and deeply rewarding.

One of the greatest strengths of the program was its emphasis on full cultural immersion. Living in Seville encouraged me to move beyond the comfort of speaking English and instead engage daily in Spanish, whether navigating the city, communicating with locals, or participating in academic and professional settings. This constant exposure accelerated my language development in a way that classroom instruction alone could never replicate. Over time, Spanish shifted from something I practiced to something I lived, and that transition fundamentally changed my confidence and fluency.

Academically, the program struck an impressive balance between rigor and real-world application. Coursework was thoughtfully structured to complement the cultural environment, allowing lessons learned in class to be reinforced through everyday experiences. Rather than learning about Spanish culture in abstraction, I was actively participating in it. This made the academic material more engaging, memorable, and meaningful. The faculty and staff were deeply knowledgeable and supportive, and they demonstrated a genuine commitment to student success, both academically and personally.

Another standout aspect of the program was the level of support provided while still encouraging independence. Adjusting to life in a new country can be overwhelming, but the program offered clear guidance and resources without limiting students’ ability to explore, problem-solve, and grow on their own. This balance helped me become more self-reliant and adaptable, skills that will benefit me long after the program has ended. Whether it was navigating public transportation, managing daily responsibilities, or communicating across cultural differences, I learned to approach challenges with confidence rather than hesitation.

The opportunity to engage with the local community was particularly impactful. Through everyday interactions and structured experiences, I gained insight into Spanish perspectives, values, and ways of life. These interactions humanized cultural differences and reinforced the importance of empathy and open-mindedness. Seville is a city that values connection, and the program made it easy to feel welcomed rather than like a temporary visitor. This sense of belonging transformed the experience from simply studying abroad to truly living abroad.

Beyond academics and language acquisition, the program played a significant role in my personal growth. Living in Seville pushed me outside my comfort zone in ways that fostered resilience and self-awareness. I became more comfortable with uncertainty, more patient with myself, and more appreciative of different ways of thinking and living. These lessons extended beyond cultural understanding and influenced how I approach challenges, relationships, and future goals.

In reflecting on my time in Seville, I am incredibly grateful for the experiences, mentorship, and growth this program provided. It exceeded my expectations in every respect, offering not just an education, but a transformative life experience. I leave with stronger language skills, a deeper cultural understanding, lasting relationships, and a renewed sense of confidence in my ability to adapt and thrive in unfamiliar environments. I would highly recommend this program to any student seeking a meaningful, immersive, and enriching study abroad experience.

What was the most unfamiliar thing you ate?
One of the most unfamiliar foods I tried during my time in Seville was at a Michelin-starred restaurant, where I was served shrimp prepared in a way I had never encountered before, including the shrimp brains. While it initially caught me off guard, the experience ended up being one of the most memorable meals of the program. The dish challenged my expectations of what was considered edible and refined, and it reflected a culinary philosophy that values using every part of an ingredient rather than discarding it.
Pros
  • Full immersion
  • Hands-on experience
  • Physician contact
Cons
  • Takes resilience for cultural adaptation!

Once in a lifetime experience in Sevilla

My experience with Adelante Abroad in Sevilla was truly unforgettable, and something I will carry with me for the rest of my life. Overall, the program was awesome and gave me the chance to grow both personally and professionally. From the start, the customer service was excellent. Every time I had a question or concern, the Adelante team responded quickly and made sure I felt supported throughout the entire process. I applied late, so I didn’t have many options when it came to my placement or housing. Even so, the pickup upon arrival went smoothly, and I appreciated how organized the transition was. When I got to my shared apartment, I was initially a little let down because three people were already living there and were not in the same situation as me. Luckily, they turned out to be really kind, and we got along great. My room itself was comfortable, and overall, the living situation worked out well. My internship was one of the highlights of my program. I worked near the water mainly assisting people with kayaking and paddle boarding at Club Deportivo Triana, which was such a unique and enjoyable experience. The staff there were wonderful since they were flexible, supportive, and always willing to help with anything I needed. Adelante also checked in with me from time to time, which was reassuring and made me feel taken care of in case any issues came up. Socially, I had to take the initiative to go out and meet people, since there wasn’t much organized for participants in that aspect. As someone who is naturally social, this wasn’t a problem for me, but for others, it might be a challenge. Still, living in Sevilla made it easy to explore. Everywhere you walk, there's something beautiful or unique to discover. It’s truly an incredible city. Overall, I’m really grateful for this experience. Despite a few small challenges, Adelante Abroad gave me an opportunity that I will remember forever, and I would absolutely recommend the program to anyone looking for an authentic and meaningful internship abroad.

What was the most nerve-racking moment and how did you overcome it?
My most nerve racking moment was traveling to another country by myself. I didn't have any friends or anyone I knew in Sevilla before I arrived. I was very nervous to how everything would go but I had 3 nice roomates who helped me with anything along the way. I also met a few other friends by going out and being social when I got the chance.

Why did you choose this program?

I chose this program because I wanted to travel to Mexico to continue learning my Mexican Spanish by practicing with native speakers. I also enjoyed that this program was pretty independent and catered to the individual - I had a lot of choice in exactly the type of work I would be doing. I also liked that the program took care of housing.

What did your program provider (or university) assist you with, and what did you have to organize on your own?

The provider provided me with housing, work placement, school placement, and pick-ups from the airport. My program director also showed me how to get to my work assignments, but I had to talk with the work directors one-on-one to figure out the exact work I would be doing. Also, I had to schedule the flight back home, food, and errands like laundry.

What is one piece of advice you'd give to someone going on your program?

I would make sure the person knows a fair bit of Spanish before going, because the people I lived with (other than the other people on the program) only spoke Spanish. Also, there were a lot of mosquitoes, so make sure to buy bug spray when you get there. Having a good cell phone connection with Google Maps is essential, as well.

What does an average day/week look like as a participant of this program?

An average day for me looked like working on graphic design work from any cafe of my choice for 4-5 hours, then coming home, walking to yoga, and hanging out with friends after. Because I was already working in the design industry and had graduated from college when I joined this program, my specific program was very independent, and the hours were basically up to me.

Going into your experience abroad, what was your biggest fear, and how did you overcome it? How did your views on the issue change?

My biggest fear was being away from my family and partner for so long (3 months). In reality, though, I was so energized and busy with fulfilling work and exploring Oaxaca that I didn't feel negatively towards being away from home. Talking on the phone with people from home helped, and I found that the experience in general helped me with my independence and gave me more self-confidence.

"How did you make friends abroad?"

I downloaded this app called "Bumble Friends," and I met up with this girl at a public coffee shop, and we became friends quickly after. Bumble Friends is a great way to meet up with people safely and in public, and it's a great way to meet people from the country you're visiting.

What is your favorite travel memory?

My favorite travel memory is actually going abroad with Adelante Abroad in 2018. When I was was going into my senior year in college, I decided to take the leap to travel to Barcelona, Spain for 2 months and intern with a social media marketing company. In college, I was very soft spoken and had a hard time meeting people because I was shy. I completely broke out of my shell during this trip. The internship I was placed in allowed me to be creative and I was also able to travel on the weekends. I visited a couple other countries during this trip abroad. Because of Adelante Abroad, I was able to learn new skills in marketing, met some incredible friends that I still talk to today, and eventually started my own social media marketing business.

How have you changed/grown since working for your current company?

This company has completely helped me grow as a marketer. I have expanded my skills from not just social media but to website development, creating marketing systems, email marketing, and blog creation. I now have an intern of my own at this company allowing me to grow as a leader. I also feel like this company allows me to present new ideas and run with them. Adelante Abroad is ever evolving so if feedback is given, change is made.

What is the best story you've heard from a return student?

Over the time I've worked here, I have heard countless lifechanging stories. One of the best stories that I have recently heard is from one of our students that went abroad to Oaxaca, Mexico in fall 2024. This person was placed at a restaurant for her internship where she helped design new menus, created murals, designed packaging for food, and also met new friends along the way. During her 3 month internship, she had other businesses in Mexico reach out to her for her work where she made other murals and package designs allowing her to expand her portfolio and resume. I think the best part about this story is she was able to create new business just by doing what she loved.

If you could go on any program that your company offers, which one would you choose and why?

Okay this is a hard question. There are a few programs that I would want to be a part of. If I had to choose one, I think I would go with the Summer Study Abroad Golf in Scotland Program. This program is one month long and our candidates get to golf at/ visit world renowned golf courses in the place where the sport originated. Because this is a study abroad program, these students can get college credit for 2 classes in just one month while playing the sport they love. They also learn skills like coaching golf to students during their time abroad. I would love to travel with other students who love golf as well and play on some breathtaking courses.

What makes your company unique? When were you especially proud of your team?

Adelante Abroad is unique because our programs are very independent. There is not much hand holding so you are able to truly get a sense of independence by the end of the program. Students do not have scheduled excursions during the whole program that they are forced to attend (there are some but they are not mandatory) which I love because it gives students the freedom to explore what they want. Additionally, our programs are some of the most cost effective study and intern abroad programs on the market and we have internships in almost any sector. I was especially proud of my team when we got feedback from multiple students who went abroad with us saying that this was one of the best experiences of their life.

What do you believe to be the biggest factor in being a successful company?

I think the biggest factor in being a successful company is listening and evolving. If a company stays the same, they are not keeping up with the changing world. At Adelante Abroad, we are constantly adding new programs, we listen to feedback given by students who are on or have been on our trips, and we make changes and adjustments where needed. We keep in mind new applicants and think about how our programs can be altered to benefit people applying.
