About Program

The high school students who join VISIONS in the British Virgin Islands become part of a legacy spanning three decades of projects that serve the Afro-Caribbean community of Virgin Gorda, where we live in a humble community center overlooking the ocean. The BVI offers shorter programs than most of VISIONS other locations, with a jam-packed week or two of service and adventure. We do carpentry and other labor projects at under-resourced schools and parks, and also help with local youth programs.

After-work activities include exploring under-water life at the many beaches, scuba diving, hikes to gorgeous vistas, community barbecues, local cuisine cooking workshops, and lots of fun.

VISIONS programs offer the opportunity for powerful personal transformation and radical community building, which together serve as a starting point on a life path of deep meaning and purpose.

Impact 🌎

In addition to high-impact social service and construction projects, VISIONS continues to expand our environmental commitment with projects rooted in sustainability and connection to the land. VISIONS aims to have no more than 25% meat & dairy sourced from factory farms by 2026.
VISIONS builds communities of teens, leaders and local people who support each other while working toward shared goals on projects that our host community has requested. We have worked in our host communities for two to three decades and teens are welcomed like family.

nice option for a community service trip

Feb 4, 2020

I spent a summer with VISIONS on the British Virgin Islands. I had the chance to spend time hanging out with the locals, trying new things, and most importantly help out the community. Till today I still have the contact of the friends i made on the island. Food was great i get to try the food made by a local lady everyday that I have never tried any else where. Besides the cultural experiences I also scuba dived for the first time in my life with them. The staffs are very helpful and open-minded, they are people that you can count on. Honestly one of the best experiences I’ve had.

One of the best summers

Nov 3, 2016

I've done the three week program to the British Virgin Islands, and it is a lifetime accomplishment that i will always look back at to admire. At first I was hesitant about going and stepping out of my comfort zone, but my parents pushed me and I left there thankful they did so. You experience a new culture of living, food and friends. To me the biggest one was friends, because you develop such a strong bond. Leaving the place broke my heart because we came so far from strangers to best friends, and it was a challenge letting go. This program is most definitely worth it, but be prepared to say goodbye because its difficult. If your worried about safety, the leaders they have there are some of the most trained and profound individuals i've ever met. They're some of the finest role models I've ever worked with. All in all, this is the best summer program out there!

Fabulous experience

Mar 6, 2012

My son loved the Visions BVI program. He had fun, made friends, learned skills and helped people. He built steps, made furniture for an orphanage, painted at the Botanical Gardens and more.

After "work," the participants got to enjoy snorkeling, beach time, a festival and all the island had to offer. My son's favorite recreational experiences were learning to scuba dive and visiting The Baths.

Visions BVI is an amazing experience!

Feb 23, 2012

I went to the British Virgin Islands with Visions during 2011 and had a great time. It is awesome to do community service at any time, but being able to work with others in your group as well as in the community makes a big impact on your experience. The islands are beautiful and Visions offers a variety of different service adventures. I have made great friends and memories that I will always remember. It is an awesome program.

What is your favorite travel memory?

While in the BVI with VISIONS there were a number of experiences that I had which would rank near the top memories while I was there. Being able to take the students to have new experiences throughout the islands is probably one of my most favorite memories. Whether it be experience a beautiful beach, learning the history of the island, snorkeling, or experience the amazing island culture, I always enjoyed seeing them excited.

How have you changed/grown since working for your current company?

VISIONS might be a small company, but the experience that they offer to their Leaders and students is huge. It is not like your normal camp or education trip, but so much more. Leaders are able to hone their skills and learn new ones in a dynamic workspace while also getting to travel.

What is the best story you've heard from a return student?

There are always a number of students that return to the same program, or are at least repeat VISION students in new locations, which shows how great a program it is. Seeing students experience new things in a new and foreign place is amazing. With VISIONS they do this without the use of technology, which forces them to be in the moment at all times. At the end of the trip many students don't miss their phones and relish the time with their new friends instead.

If you could go on any program that your company offers, which one would you choose and why?

I have been on tow of their locations; BVI and the Montana Farm. Both of them are great locations in their own way. BVI was by far my favorite of the two though. Who doesn't like spending time on a warm Caribbean island visiting new beaches, hiking, and taking in the sun.

What makes your company unique? When were you especially proud of your team?

VISIONS is a small organization, but makes huge differences in the communities in which they work. Unlike camps and travel organization, VISIONS creates a program where the students give back to the community through community work projects. It is great to be able to see the look of accomplishment on the faces of the students as they learn and complete new tasks.

What do you believe to be the biggest factor in being a successful company?

To be successful you must first have a passion for the work and a vision for the future. At VISIONS, the staff truly do have a passion for the work and it shows with the quality of the programs and the number of students and leaders that return year after year. The staff always goes over and beyond to support their leaders and to make sure that the programs run as smoothly as possible.
