About Program
CIIV (Colima Intercambio e Investigacion en Vulcanologica) is a volunteering/internship program that researches Volcán de Colima located in the states of Colima and Jalisco, Mexico. Volunteers come from around the world and there have been more than 300 undergraduates and postgraduates since the beginning of the program in 2004. Students have the opportunity to assist in the monitoring of an active volcano and experience Mexican culture.
The minimum period is usually two months, but preference is given to those who can stay for longer. Work will consist of assisting with field and lab work, including: routine collection of water and gas samples, maintenance of installed sensors, development of new systems, geophysical surveys and analysis of data.
