About Program
Water is a scarce resource in Lobitos. Not only do many residents lack access to toilets, but Lobitos also lacks a sanitation network, which previously collapsed, leaving open drainage points exposed. We need hard-working volunteer interns with a strong interest in and/or background knowledge of water management and sanitation to come and support us in our ongoing projects in northern Peru:
Water treatment: Interns can get involved with the research/construction of water treatment initiatives like solar distillers, biodigesters, and hydroponic vetiver pontoons
Dry toilet: we use our dry toilet on a daily basis. Interns will be required to make improvements to the current design of our dry toilet or develop and initiate the expansion of more public dry toilets in the community
Groundwater: Volunteer interns will also get involved with our ongoing groundwater research for community use in Lobitos, as well as plan, design, test, and implement potential applications
