About Program
We do not offer paid internships or cater for volunteering experiences. To be eligible for a Work the World medical internship, you need to be in medical school, or have equivalent clinical experience (MD or equivalent). We can also not accept premeds.
From extreme burns to hypertension, the complaints interns will have the opportunity to observe in tropical Iloilo are unique to the Philippine islands and the lifestyle of their people. The high-sugar diet here means strokes and diabetes are also rife. This low-resource setting also means finance plays a huge part in how patients are prescribed medicine and subsequently treated. As such, interns will gain unparalleled insight into the country's healthcare system.
Afternoons will be free for interns to enjoy all Iloilo has to offer – delicious cuisine, music, and dancing spill onto the city's streets come the evening, and further afield award-winning coastlines, whale watching sites, and festivals await.
