About Program

Are you passionate about making a meaningful impact in healthcare while gaining resume-boosting work experience?

With the shortage of medical facilities and health education in Africa, many communities have limited access to quality healthcare. Intern in Africa and be part of our extensive public health internships. Internships are tailored to fit your preferences, passions, and academic background - allowing you to be part of impactful initiatives to help under-served communities in Africa. With a wide range of opportunities available, you can choose from sports coaching, teaching physical fitness to kids, conducting health education workshop programs, teaching yoga lessons, and providing support to HIV-positive individuals.

Browse through our health and medical internships offered across West and Southern Africa. You also have options to set out into rural communities in Ghana or Malawi. You may choose to be based in Cape Town, South Africa, or join the remote internship.

This program is currently not being promoted on Go Overseas by its provider. Check with Roots Interns for the most up-to-date information regarding the status of this program.

Impact

Sustainability

Having started off as the offshoot of an urban greening project, Roots Interns has always been aware of our environmental impact. That's why we work with projects and accommodations that are also actively aware of their impact and striving to make a positive difference. By consciously choosing partners that have sustainable practices in place, we can work towards balancing out any impacts on the environment with equally positive actions.

Ethical Impact

Roots Interns was built around a need for qualified interns in the sustainable development sector. Whether supporting environmental or wildlife conservation or social development, our internships leave a tangible positive footprint on people’s lives and their environment. Working at a grassroots level ensures that the needs of host communities are always at the forefront, no matter the specific cause. Many of our partners support the UN Sustainable Development Goals, further aligning our internships with creating sustainable change. We take great pride in the impact our interns create with the organization they work with and the connections they're able to make in new locations and cultures.
