CIEE GLINT Monteverde

My internship at the Bellbird Biological Corridor in Costa Rica has been an incredible journey of personal and professional growth. Immersed in the heart of Monteverde, a region renowned for its stunning cloud forests and rich biodiversity. This hands-on experience in sustainable practices, coupled with the opportunity to observe and participate in the local conservation efforts, has been amazing. This internship has not only enhanced my understanding of ecological preservation but also strengthened my skills in collaboration and cross-cultural communication.

What was the most surprising thing you saw or did?
Go horseback riding after going on a hike to the El Tigre waterfalls.

My Summer Working Abroad in Dublin

I studied abroad and worked at The Podcast Studios in Dublin from June 16th to August 11th. I had a wonderful, well-rounded experience. CIEE is very flexible with student travelling abroad to different countries, I had an amazing and beautiful weekend trip with some girls I met from the program to Edinburgh, Scotland. I also went on CIEE's various trips to different cities in Ireland, like Kilkenny. They took us on a brewery tour, gave us some time to explore on our own, and organized all of the travel plans/expenses. My favorite trips/activities were those hosted by CIEE because they were paid for, almost everyone in my program went to them, and they were always a good time. In the last week of our trip, they organized a karaoke night, a picnic/beach day, and a farewell dinner to end off the week.

What is your advice to future travelers on this program?
My advice is to allow yourself to challenge your comfort zones! Even though I went into the trip knowing I would have to get out of my comfort zone, I still had to chalenge myself to follow through with it. Even though at times I felt overwhelmed, like when I would go to a new place, new city, or travelled with people I had just met, I ended up having a great time when I powered through the anxiety.
Pros
  • Independent travel
  • Connections with new friends (local or from the program)!
  • Learning about and experiencing new cultures.
Cons
  • Homesickness
  • It's not safe to go to bars/clubs alone!
  • Burnout

While the programs needs to improve their pre-departure communication. once arrived I had a blast. the staff is extremely supportive and kind. shout out to teddy for taking me to the orthopedist at 6pm last minute when I was getting bad pain in my arm. theres is some great opportunities to experience working and living in a foreign environment. make sure to be very clear in your internship placement meeting what your looking for if you want something that fits your goals and dont be afraid to ask questions.

Lexi’s Experience

CIEE made my trip in Seoul, South Korea amazing. From the extracurricular activities to my internship, this summer has been the best one of my life. They are a very reliable option if you want to have a good mix of extracurricular activities, study, and free time. I would recommend CIEE for anyone planning on study abroad. The staff themselves are a great example of the CIEE program and their mentality, and they have always made sure that we felt safe and comfortable. I am forever grateful to CIEE and the opportunities they have provided for me.

If you did this all over again, what's one thing you would change?
I would try and go out as much as possible, to explore the city and surrounding areas.

Summer Global Internship Barcelona

I cannot recommend this program enough! The pre-departure process was very easy and I was in contact with several people who were in charge of the program. By the time I left for Barcelona, I felt prepared. The orientation was very helpful and was a great way to meet other people and learn more about the city. I met several people through both my class and the activities offered through CIEE. Barcelona is a great city to study in and has a great nightlife, as well as beaches and restaurants. I will be very sad to leave both Barcelona and CIEE!

If you did this all over again, what's one thing you would change?
I didn’t rush to do the tourist attractions as I figured I would have plenty of time to do them over the course of eight weeks. However, I did feel rushed at the end, and wish I would’ve spread them out more throughout the program.
Pros
  • Nightlife
  • Beaches
  • Public Transportation
Cons
  • Very busy in summer

Loved the experience

I met a lot of fun people and had the chance to explore the city really well. We were able to meet and interact with a lot of locals and were lucky enough to be here for the Euros, which was really fun to watch with the friends that we made here. We also had a chance to explore the continent which was really fun. The only issue was that CIEE wouldn’t give us the contact information of the others in our program before we arrived even when asked. Overall it was an experience I would relive if I could.

CIEE is the way to go!

I was trying to find an internship abroad for a long time before I ran across CIEE, and I could not have been more grateful to have applied and been accepted into the program. The CIEE team are all great communicators with tons of support, and they help make sure that you have a smooth and fun experience abroad. Seville is also a gorgeous city with tons of things to do (although it does get a bit hot by the end of the program) but would definitely recommend for anyone looking to get an internship in Spain!

What was the most nerve-racking moment and how did you overcome it?
I got my phone stolen! But luckily, CIEE helped me file a police and insurance claim, and it all ended up working out.
