Social Work & Teaching Internships in Tanzania

What position do you hold at Tanzania Appointments? What has been your career path so far?

As a president of Tanzania Appointments Company Limited, I am experienced and well equipped with international education and diversity management qualities. Even though it has been necessary for me to accomplish my university education, I made sure that what I study has an impact. I hold degrees in Social work and also Business and Economics.

I have worked in Social organizations such as AMREF and UNFPA as an apprentice for 5 months, Worked as a part of the team in International Regional Development and sustainability projects, Coordinated Research and Development activities as well as managing International Mobility for students and academics as well as International Partner frameworks.

In my high school years I took part in various social development activities such as wildlife conservation societies and piece movements. I hold some certificates from United Nation as a Youth of the United Nation successful contributor in various activities in Tanzania.

Did YOU intern abroad?! If so, where and what inspired you to go?

During my social work education I was interested to do an internship. As I was accomplishing my degree overseas, I went back to my home country for an internship. It could be thought that this was not an internship abroad, but I can assure you it was more than an overseas assignment to me.

Western education added a lot of knowledge in my understanding of doing things as a social worker. Seeing the need that my own country has and the need for more knowledge in many aspects, I was inspired to go back and work there.

I met a social work colleague from USA and we were a great work pair. She took care of children and I worked with HIV aids organization to empower workers and clients. It was a moment that I will cheer up for the rest of my life.

Through that experience starting Up Tanzania Appointment was an easier task. As a Tanzanian studied and worked abroad, I am sure internships are a great way of any student or professional to learn and at the same time contribute to a good course.

What does the future hold for Tanzania Appointments - any exciting new programs to share?

The future of Tanzania Appointment is bright. As a new company, we have a very positive reception in Tanzanian Organizations. The amount of local interests is more than we can afford to accept the partnerships.

We work with only certified organization and not anything that can be a potential host of the students. As a NON VOLUNTEERING company, we wish to provide experience to students who will see their impact in the community while getting their experiences in return.

We work with supervision and support all incoming clients also with their programs away from work when needed. Our main future aspirations lay in two matters:

• Work for Tanzanian organization and expand to other regions in order to foster the needs of our clients
• Frame community development clusters that our interns and partner organizations will participate and contribute their expertise. We will measure the impact of each activity done by our clients.

What was your favorite traveling experience?

I have travelled the world a lot. I would however mention that my favorite travel experience was when I visited the United States (California and Arizona). Driving around, getting to see people and understanding the communities in those states was a great result. The highlight of all was to visit the Grand Canyon.

It was an inspirational thing since despite the fact of viewing such a massive structure; I also met people from different parts of the world. It was an opportunity for enjoyment as well as making connection. Similar experiences can be attained to our Interns who will opt to climb the Kilimanjaro or go for Safari in Arusha and Zanzibar.

There are many people from around the world – each of whom has as a new story to share. You never know where your next journey will be after networking informally. Mine will be in Korea and I will look forward to Canada and Australia.

What unique qualities does your company possess?

We are a local company with international networks. We do not offer just anything; we do know who we can work with as we are aware of the culture and what could work better. All of our clients receive Language and cultural competence training before they depart and during their stay. We are locally registered with right to operate.

Staff working with us is all qualified in their areas and most of all we are informal. In all of our accommodations we have locals 24/7. This supports our clients whenever they have anything to ask. We are also corrupt free organization and we do not entertain any activity near that.

All of our clients have adequate support from before they apply to the after arrival at home. We take a great note on the hygiene. Therefore we do not run dormitories as part of accommodation.
