Overall, I had a really great time in Munich with EF. I took an intensive course and learned quite a bit of German in just 5 weeks. I started at A1.1 and advanced to A2.1. It is also really easy to meet people and make friends from all over the world. The excursions were generally really well organised and they took us to interesting places. If you choose to do this, I reccomend staying at the EF residence or in the EF hotel, espescially if you go in the summer as availability in the summer is limited and if you have problems with a host family it is sometimes difficult to move. The facilities are really nice and modern not too far from the school. But overall I had an incredible time- the school is centrally located and Munich is a really safe and fun place to live.

I think EF Munich and EF in general, because I also was 3 months in Singapore, is really usefull: on one way to learn a language with a really efficient way and on another way by developing our self skills. I mean I´ve never learned so much about myself, you begin some one smarter, maturer, and you are more clear in you ideas by thinking or to take decisions. It´s not only a language school but also a life school.
Now I know correctly German and English and that´s something fabulous, I´m also motivated, more than before to learn other languages out of the others I´ve already learned, because you meet lot of people from everywhere in the world and it´s also a really grateful experience.

Here in Munich is the staff really super, almost everybody cares how you feel/are and it´s really easy to have a clear discussion. The atmosphere between staff and students is in general really good, and it helps. I´ve also learned from my guest family, they weren´t so good but I´ve learned to be patient and to enforce/impose myself.

To sum up, I absolutely don´t regret this adventure, because I learned to extend my limits, my vision of the world and to know what I want!

EF Berlin is the perfect place to learn German and have incredible amounts of fun at the same time. All of the students and staff here were very outgoing and welcoming. It's hard moving to a new country and city where you don't really know anybody. EF Staff and the students made it much easier. If you are wanting to learn a new language or wanting to visit a beautiful city, I would highly recommend going to EF Berlin.

That day when I arrived in Berlin for the very first time will always remain in my memories. It was such a great feeling. When I saw the Brandeburger Gate, symbol of this amazing city, I was fulfilled with happiness. Two hours passed and I was still there, enjoying the view. Time was already flying. I was grateful for having the opportunity to discover this city. A dream came true. And I wish I will again have the same experience.

What is the average age of students over the summer?

Great question! We offer different programs for different ages groups (for example a Junior program just for students 13-15 in some locations and a professional program for students 25+ in others), but the average age at school is 17-19. We accept students 16 and up at all campuses and students aged 13-15 in Saint Raphael, Munich, and Malaga.

What are the requirements?

Hi Sophia! Thanks so much for your interest. We welcome students 13-15 in the summer and students 16 and up all year long. You will be placed in a course based on your language level, so beginners to advanced speakers are welcome. What is your favorite travel memory?

EF Germany Employees

There are plenty of travel memories which make me excited about my job! But one that still makes me laugh was when I went on my first language course (to France) at the age of 18.

I wanted to order French Fries (in German, we say "Pommes") in a restaurant - but I got an apple juice instead ("pommes"="apple" in French)! These situations and misunderstandings are part of an experience abroad and how you learn outside the classroom!

By the way - almost 20 years after my first language course abroad, I am still in touch with other students from New Zealand and South Korea!

How have you changed/grown since working for your current company?

Working together with colleagues and students from more than 50 countries has definitely broadened my mind! You never stop learning about cultural differences; it is great to see how so many different nationalities become friends and learn from each other.

What is the best story you've heard from a return student?

A couple of years ago, during my time at EF Santa Barbara, two students from different countries fell in love with each other: They got married in 2015!

If you could go on any program that your company offers, which one would you choose and why?

I would go on a multi-language year to learn 3 different languages in 3 different countries because it is a very special world trip. My advice for all students in addition to their classes: volunteer for a social or environmental organization to practice the language, to get in touch with locals and to broaden your horizon!

At all EF schools, there is a staff in charge of volunteering and internships to support you with these plans.

What makes your company unique? When were you especially proud of your team?

Apart from an impressive nationality mix at EF, with students from more than 50 countries, students benefit from our philosophy to offer "more than just a language course".

We believe that daily activities, excursions, an active school community and the right accommodation options are as much part of a language course abroad as the classroom experience.

While many language schools outsource services to external agencies or only work with free-lance teachers, our permanent school team consists of employed teachers and service staff to ensure full quality control for classes, accommodation and activities.

When I was especially proud of my team? In 2015, less than one year after its inauguration, EF Berlin was accredited by EAQUALS ("Evaluation and Accreditation of Quality Language Services") with "points of excellence" in 11 out of 12 areas. This is an outstanding result for a new school with a young, but qualified and highly motivated team!

What do you believe to be the biggest factor in being a successful company?

It's all about the team. People notice the difference if you work well together as a team and if you are passionate about what you do and believe in it!
