More than just Spanish classes!

I would highly recommend Casco Antiguo Spanish School in Panamá city.

When finding a language school, it was highly important for me to have a cultural immersion through the school besides "just" learning Spanish.

Casco Antiguo offers exactly this: activities everyday to learn about Central-/Latin-America and Panamá (i.e. city tour on bikes with a local teacher from Panamá or Salsa classes); a location in the heart of the city center where you can immerse yourself in the history and contemporary Panamá (presidential palace is for instance 10 minutes by foot); and volunteering opportunities for those who stay longer in Panamá.

I learned Spanish five years ago in Spain while working as an AuPair, so I already had a foundation, but after learning Portuguese and other languages in the meantime, my spoken Spanish was very poor. I took the small group intensive classes for three weeks and two days and could feel my Spanish improve with every day passing! The classes are small to maximize learning and speaking opportunities, in my case we were just two students. I had classes with Hector and Ana, who have both been great professors. They used games and personalized the classes to topics we were interested in to make them short-lived and fun. Besides the classes, the school was extremely helpful and good at communication. Whatever concern, you can email them and you get a super fast reply, the communication and booking went super smooth. They also provided me with a language certificate which I needed for a scholarship without any problems and were flexible with scheduling.

I really felt like the teachers and administration (Tricia, David, and Eddalia) really cared about the students, gave recommendations what to do outside the classroom and really made my Panamá experience awesome. Casco Antiguo became like a second home to me during my time abroad. Thank you Hector, Ana, Tricia, David, Eddalia, and all other professors for being so open-minded, competent and welcoming!

Week in Casco

Hector was a fantastic teacher! He is obviously passionate about his work that he tries to understand why I’m confused coming from an English speaking country. He also made the lessons relatable to my needs. The after school activities were fun and I learned a lot from my salsa class. I hope they bring back the cooking classes, but can’t say I want anything to go. Overall would recommend this to friends. It is more expensive than classes I have taken in Guatemala, but the combination of listening, writing and speaking.

Pros
  • Well organized
  • Great location
Cons
  • Expensive

Un mes increíble en Panamá a Casco Antiguo Spanish School

I am a professor approaching 60 and as part of my sabbatical I wanted to study Spanish. I did a ton of research and decided on Casco Antiguo Spanish School (CASS). It was definitely the right choice!

I had a lot of criteria for my trip. In addition to wanting a good Spanish program, I wanted a program where I would not feel totally out of place as an almost 60 year old. I also wanted a program in a location that was safe (I was traveling alone) and relatively easy to get to (I was coming from the US). CASS in Casco Viejo checked all the boxes, and their 5 star rating is well deserved.

The staff at CASS are great. From my first contact, they were incredibly responsive. Tricia took the time to speak with me and answer all my questions (and I had a lot) And throughout my stay, all of the teachers and staff were willing to practice with me. I truly appreciate their willingness to speak slowly and clearly!

I took 4 weeks of small group intensive lessons. My first 2 weeks I had afternoon classes and, as I was the only person at my level that week, had 3 hours of 1-on-1 classes with Silka. For my second 2 weeks I switched to morning classes with Lina. I was in a great small group of 3 one week and 2 the other. Both teachers were great! In addition to classroom learning, I got to take some “field trips” and practice my Spanish in and around Casco Viejo. I particularly enjoyed my visit to the Museo de la Mola and practicing giving and following directions while wandering around Casco.

Salsa class with Jasmin, and happy hour and sunset bike rides with Kiki were also great opportunities to practice and meet other students studying at the school.
I learned a lot and my Spanish has really improved. I highly recommend CASS.

Outstanding Spanish Immersion Program!

Casco Spanish School has provided me with an unforgettable experience in Panama!! As a senior in high school, I spent one month taking Spanish lessons and being immersed in the language at Casco school. I loved the different outdoor lessons and fun activities in class, because it was a great way to practice speaking. One of my favorite aspects about school is how they teach conversational Spanish skills in a very effective and fun way. After finishing my 4-week Small Group lessons, I felt much more confident in my Spanish skills to have meaningful conversations with native Spanish speakers! In addition to their outstanding education and instruction, the school always gave me great tips on how to navigate the beautiful city!

This was also my first trip traveling alone, and Casco Spanish School provided me with a wonderful host family and great accommodations. After returning to my home in the United States, I still keep in touch with my host family and am able to practice Spanish with them!

Overall, I’ve had a wonderful time at Casco Spanish School, and will definitely return soon!!

Casco Antiguo Spanish School

I had a great experience at Casco Antiguo Spanish School. I feel much more comfortable speaking Spanish with native speakers now. The instructors are passionate about teaching and they make the classes fun and interesting. We took several field trips to museums, markets and parks. I especially enjoyed the free samples at I Love Panama Chocolate. I also enjoyed being able to practice what I learned in class during the free after school activities. The bike tour and happy hour were great ways to meet other students. I hope to return to Panama City some day to take another class.

Pros
  • Small class sizes.
  • Learned a lot about the history and culture.
  • Met other students through after school activities.
Cons
  • Panama City is very hot.

Casco Antiguo Spanish School

Casco Antiguo Spanish School built a program for our children to learn Spanish with them. They each had a different level of Spanish knowledge before coming to class. They made the kids feel welcomed. The kids participated in outings around the neighborhood so they could practice their skills. They went above and beyond to make the kids feel comfortable. The school did an impressive job teaching them Spanish and teaching them the Panamanian culture. I would recommend this school for anyone wanting to learn Spanish.

One Week Intensive Spanish Course

Absolutely AMAZING experience at Casco Antiguo Spanish School. Lessons were interactive, teacher was incredible and had an amazing ability to break the language down in a manner that really made sense and enabled us to pick it up quickly. I walked out feeling confident in both my written and spoken Spanish - I'm not fluent but, without a doubt, on my way to being so with Rosana's help. ALL the staff are friendly, fun, warm and welcoming. It was simply an all-round super experience and I can't wait to go back!

Pros
  • Fantastic teachers
  • Warm, friendly, inviting atmosphere
  • Afternoon / evening activities to make friends and practise Spanish

Great Spanish School

I just completed 3 weeks of the intensive course (4 hours/day, 5 days a week) at Casco Spanish School. I really enjoyed my time here and learned a lot. My teacher, Jose Javier, was fantastic. He used a lot of different activities and techniques to teach Spanish. We did some more typical activities like reading stories, learning vocab from the stories and answering questions but we also did more interactive activities like interviewing native speakers and then reporting their answers, playing games, scavenger hunts and given presentations. I really appreciated the diversity of activities and topics that we discussed and practiced in class. The other instructors and staff at the school are great and super fun and supportive. I felt like I could reach out with problems or questions. I have studied at a few Spanish schools and this was by far the best. I really enjoyed my time her and highly recommend this school.
