Teaching English in Japan

OnTheMark is the most transparent recruiter I have worked with. They explain everything and are always there if you have any questions. From the time I applied to when I arrived in Japan they remained in contact with me, so not once did I feel lost, alone, or deserted. And for me that was very important since I came to Japan on my own! Japan is quiet an experience! It is heaven for foodies, and people are so friendly and helpful. I don’t speak any Japanese so I was nervous this would cause issues for me, but everyone is always willing to help out if I need anything. I love my school and my colleagues as well! The work is simple yet enjoyable. And I couldn’t have been placed in a better city! I’m in Yokkaichi and it has everything I need! My student are amazing and I am constantly laughing and learning things about Japan through them.

Get busy living

I can really only thank On the Mark Education for where I’m at right now. I am super thrilled to be teaching in Moscow, Russia. At first I was a little apprehensive about making the big move, but On the Mark Education made the whole process a lot less stressful. My experience in Russia has been amazing so far. I teach little ones at a private kindergarten and even though I am teaching them, I find that I am learning more than they are! This whole experience has really been an eye opener and taught me so much not only about myself but about the world out there. Doing this has changed and challenged me in so many ways but I wouldn’t have it any other way! I am broadening my life experiences whilst adding people-centric value at the same time.

What was your funniest moment?
I spoke into the voice option of google translate at the local store asking for headache pills and it translated to ‘I like apples’

YOUR ADVENTURE IS OUT THERE IN CHINA

I am absolutely loving my experience in Beijing. On the Mark education is absolutely amazing. They are always there to answer my emails immediately like FOR REAL. They consistently check up with me to make sure that everything is going smoothly. I really feel such a sense of comfort to work with them. They are professional in every step of the way during the process. I am really grateful for the support. Moving to a different nation is such a big move in my life as it is my first time to travel outside my country and they provided such a security and I am so glad to work at my school now. They are very organized and my co-workers are very amazing to work with. They and the kids are the reason why I excited about going to work. I can’t wait to explore more of the city. Beijing is a big city but the metro is very convenient. I am still trying to get used to the food and using chopsticks but life is taking chances and learning different things. On the Mark says the best “YOUR ADVENTURE IS OUT THERE”

I heart China. Love every moment

Can't thank On the Mark Education enough. I am teaching in Beijing right now and loving my city and school. It was nerve wrecking to start the interview process but On the Mark was there to answer questions and provide all the helpful information. They made the process easier for me. I think the best part is that I didn't even pay for my flight to China. They flew me there! That's just crazy! As a recent graduate, I really couldn't afford my flight to China so it was super helpful. The airport pick up was easy and I have been really taken care of by the school. Now, I get to save money from my salary and travel to many different countries in Asia. Thank you On the Mark for being so patient and helpful. I highly recommend On the Mark Education to everyone especially if you just finish college, free flight to China is such a huge help financially.

I love China!

I have been teaching in Chengdu for about 9 months now and I am so in love with this city and the school I work at. Chengdu has so much to offer and there are always things to do and see in this city. I don't go out as often as I used to as teaching can be tiring at times but I still enjoy it as I have found the rhythm in my life.

I have to give credits to On the Mark Education as they were so patient during the interview process. They are professional and always give useful tips to help me with interviews. The communication with my recruiter was just amazing. I pretty much got the job offer in a week and made the decision right away about the city I planned on going.

Why did you choose this program?

I chose this program due to what it offered and the responses that On the Mark provided. Their team made it comforting knowing that there was someone on the other side of the world to help with any questions I had. They also assisted me once I got to Thailand and had follow up questions. On the Mark is more than just a placement agency, they are company that stays with you.

What did your program provider assist you with, and what did you have to organize on your own?

On the mark helped me find a company that fit my needs when moving abroad. This included finding a school, teaching the ages I preferred, accommodations, and constant guidance throughout the process. On the mark also provides alternatives to working in other countries in the future. I continue to communicate with them for assistance for my future options.

What is one piece of advice you'd give to someone going on your program?

My best advice is to keep an open mind and to not quit after the first month. The first month living abroad can be challenging with a new culture, new surroundings, and missing your loved ones but, if you stay, then you will not regret it. In addition to that,
make sure to bring any medicine or hygiene needs that you prefer.

What does an average day/week look like as a participant of this program?

An average week can consist of you possibly teaching hundreds of students and knowing that classes can be disrupted due to an activity within their culture. This, of course, depends on the country that you are working in. Some cultures take education more serious than others. Remember, keep an open mind.

Going into your experience abroad, what was your biggest fear, and how did you overcome it? How did your views on the issue change?

My biggest fear was leaving a career in the states to try something new but, once I figured out that I enjoy teaching, then my journey continued. This opportunity allowed me to realize that we can all overcome our fears be just trying it out. Since, I have left the states, I have visited over 20 new countries. Overall, my fear guided to my passion and goal of seeing more of what the world can offer.

What was your best experience?

Every country has positives and negatives, as do people. Be careful when traveling but, have fun with it. My favorite journey was seeing the great barrier reef as a solo traveller. This experience allowed me to see an epic wonder of the world,
fly in a helicopter for the first time, dive the reef, and try couch surfing for the first time. This was just one of the many enjoyable experiences I have had since moving abroad. The world is our playground to play in.

What is your favorite travel memory?

My favorite travel memory is a trip I went on with a group of close friends to Malaysia. Aside from eating great food and exploring a fascinating culture, we made lots of friends with the locals and ended up making a music video with them!

Although they spoke very little English, and we spoke only a few words of the local language, we managed to gather a whole crowd on the beach who wanted to dance with us. We had no idea that we would end up teaching two dozen of our new friends the dance moves we had made up just to be silly!

At the end of the day, I find that all my best travel memories involve stepping out of my comfort zone and really connecting to people.

What is the best story you've heard from a return student?

Most students have great stories to share. Among my favorites are those who move abroad thinking they’ll just spend a year teaching, but then they fall in love…either with teaching, with the culture, with a person, or with all of the above, and they end up staying in the country because they love their lives there so much!

When students thank me for helping them find their passion, I feel like we’ve done our job.

What makes your company unique? When were you especially proud of your team?

I love this company because of the fabulous teamwork and leadership! OTM is an innovative company and the team is incredibly dedicated to connecting teachers to placements that suit them best.

We are all passionate about adventure, and want nothing more than to connect potential teachers to their next great adventure in teaching and the cultural exchange that goes with it.

We are currently looking for applicants to teach in China, Hong Kong, Thailand, Japan, Saudi Arabia and Russia, and are constantly expanding to add more countries to that list!

What do you believe to be the biggest factor in being a successful company?

The biggest factor is running a successful company is passion! Everyone at OTM not only loves working here but also believes in what we do.

We strongly believe in creating the opportunity for people to connect personally with other cultures…be that our teachers or the students they teach! None of us would be here if our lives hadn’t been touched in a profound way by that connection, so we also place a lot of emphasis on finding a position that really fits the personality and goals of the applicant.
