Teaching as a Non-Native?

Posted by Mario Garic 7 years 4 months ago

I know this is a long shot, but I have to ask. As a Non-native speaker how slim are my chances really? I have a 140 hour TEFL certificate and some teaching background in Thailand, is there even the slightest chance of getting a job in South Korea or Japan? Reason is, I want to learn both of those languages and I am in love with everything there!

Hi Mario,
Unfortunately, the Korean government will not grant teaching visas if you are not from one of the following countries: USA, Canada, NZ, Australia, Scotland, Ireland and the UK. The TEFL certification may help you find a job in other countries though...

If you are looking for a great resource to learn to speak Korean, you should look into Beeline Language Korean at this link here: https://www.beelinelanguage.com/

Best of luck!

Hello, just to double check - I am a citizen of one of the aforementioned countries (Ireland), however I was born in Russia, so not actually a native speaker. I have been living in English speaking countries for the last 15 years and I speak English fluently. I have graduated Teaching college in Russia as an English teacher, and do have some teaching experience. I am also currently working on 160 hour TEFL certification. Would I be eligible for the program? Thank you.
