Aitutaki - Travel Teacher

Where to start... From the moment I touched down in Aitutaki Airport, to the moment I left, I felt like the luckiest person in the world. I love teaching, and being able to do something you love in a country you have never been to before and then fall in love with is just amazing!

This was such a unique experience as there is nothing like this at the moment in our industry and Matt Ray has such amazing connections which makes the whole journey a lot better. Being able to teach a group of children in a completely different culture to us here in the UK gave me such an insight into a different school curriculum and how countries with little financial or material support can bring out the best in children.

I would definitely recommend this experience to anyone who enjoys travelling and or teaching or who is just looking to build their confidence away from home and jump out of their comfort zone!

An amazing journey, with some unforgettable experiences. The school was so welcoming and giving to us all, and I know I was able to give something back! The people on this island are the kindest, most thoughtful people I have ever met and I can't wait to come back and see them all again!

The best thing about this whole trip though was the location. Stunning views, beautiful crystal clear lagoons with some unbelievable beaches! Hopefully I will become an ambassador for Travel Teacher in the further and help others experience what I have these last 2 weeks!

What would you improve about this program?
Longer programmes, staying in different countries for longer to further impact the children.

Aitutaki

This trip has been one I will never forget!
There has been so much positivity to take away from Aitutaki starting with the people! Teaching the children has been amazing! They are always excited to see you and embrace everything that you are trying to teach them!
Away from the school, no matter where you go, you are treated like a celebrity because everyone on the island is so thankful for everything you are doing to help the children, and as you learn when you come here, everyone knows each other and news travels fast!
When it comes to the activities that are included in your trip, it's hard to believe water can be so clear and so blue! The snorkelling has been a real highlight, as well as exploring some of the surrounding islands like 'One Foot Island'. In the evening, it's always great to take in a cultural show, especially because some of the dancers are some of the students you are teaching and the teachers you are helping. But the one thing I will take away from this trip the most, like I said at the beginning, is just how happy the people always are, even though in quite a lot of cases they live very basic lives. It's makes you feel more appreciative of everything we have available to us back in the UK. I very much plan on coming back to the Cook Islands again! And I already cannot wait for that day when I do come back out here!

Travel Teacher

This is a life-changing experience that leaves you craving more. After my experience with Travel Teacher in the Cook Islands, I not only had the absolute privilege of teaching a number of kids that were eager and excited to learn and hear what I had to say, but I also was able to learn a lot more about myself and what I want to achieve in the coming years. The bright smiles running up to me each school day as we arrived is an image that I will never forget.

Outside of the classroom, Travel Teacher takes you to some of the most beautiful and sought after locations in the world. The ocean was beautiful, the people the friendliest I've ever known, and the food was fresh and gorgeous.

There is some of your traditional travel elements here of course, but what sets Travel Teacher aside from the rest is their culture. If you want a life changing experience that will push you out of your comfort zone, take you to places you have only dreamed of, and give you life long memories with new friends you'll never forget, then Travel Teacher is for you.

Great experience in Fiji

Going to Beachcoomber island, great company, scenery, snorkelling, sun and people. Simply breathtaking and beautiful. Take a boat on sunny day to a little island in the South Pacific that is paradise, snorkel in beautiful clear blue seas surrounded by marine life and warm waters, lay and a golden sandy beach in sunny warm weather and then take a stroll around the island in 20 mins - all in all a beautiful day I will never forget

What would you improve about this program?
Difficult to say it was a fun packed program coupled with a great experience with the Fijian students. Very hospitable natives and beautiful surroundings. Difficult to improve!!

BULA! My time in fiji

Well for me going to Fiji was life changing, the overall experience really gets you out of your comfort zone(in a good way) TravelTeacher is such a unique charity-you actally get to experience the life of a fijian but also expored fiji as well.

For me career and which way to go had always been a struggle, I've done plumbing and restaurant management-but it wasn't me. Thankfully I was able to go back to college and study sports (which I should of done in the first place) I loved my course and my Tutor Matt gave everyone in the class to come to Fiji, it wasn't like a 2 week holiday(ok in a way it kind of was but it was more) the Itinerey looked amazing as well as the experience. Not also are we traveling to Fiji but we will have a Teaching qualification in education and training level 3. Even though it's a stepping stone-Rome wasn't built in a day :)

One of my favourite moments was when we went to beach Comber island, it was beautiful, we also got to see some turtles and I went in the water and did 2 minutes of snorkeling(as I can't swim I had to have a life jacket) but it was really good just being in the ocean and not knowing what was underneath you. My best experience was when we had our school day, teaching is something I have a passion for as doing sports development and coaching to then hopefully become a P.E teacher. It was really something getting that teaching environment and the kids are so sweet again very different to England, not just the people but the school, everything is so basic which was nice-no technology, the community was WOW I have never seen such a string community like this.

While we were there we had our 3 hours at school(which was such a joy as teaching is something I want to do) The Villiage we stayed In Nammitukula was such a blessing, everyone was so happy to see us and to be in our company. I have never seen a community this strong before. It also gave my time to reflect on my faith abit more as there were other Christians there. But the overall experience was just WOW, we went to beachcomber Island(dream world) I can't be more thankful for this oppertunatey. Thank you to Vani and Watson(which I hope you guys see they are lovely) Also a Thank you to cheeka and his family. I would definitely recommend it to anyone, even if you don't want to do to teaching you learn so much more about yourself and the people your around(surrounding, different way of life, out of your comfort zone) It's such a good idea that both party can bennifit, it helps us as learner a and helps the teacher(support) and the community. :)

Everyone is so friendly and they all say BULA! (Mean hello) overall this experience given me a platformto stand on as we're getting a quificaton in education and training, even if you done want to do teaching, this experience gives you so much more, it gives you confidence, making use your initiative/adapt, helping you as a person to grow. The best thing is it doesn't just help us, it helps the teachers as we aid in there lessons. 10/10 highly recommended to anyone. Vanaka(means thank you)

Travel Teacher

Honestly can't explain my time doing Travel Teacher! It was everything I expected and more, I couldn't have asked for a better experience. I got so much support from the Travel Teacher team and the other participant, everyone just feels like a big family. As cheesy as it sounds Fiji is a home away from home and it wouldn't of been without the people.
Teaching at the school was an overwhelming experience, little things we take for granted these children would love to have. They were constantly excited and raring to learn, it was an amazing learning environment to be around. This experience changed my life and I couldn't be happier that I took part in it.

What would you improve about this program?
I honestly couldn't think of any improvements. I just wish it didn't have to come to an end but that's nothing that can be helped.
