Warriors Academy

At warriors I was pushed to do better and with the support of the staff I was able to do everything. Everyone was kind and there was never a moment of conflict. I did alot of things like eating a worm and walking over coals which pushed me out of my comfort zone but it was good it taught me that I can do anything If I put my mind to it. Warriors is an experience taught me how to do somethings I never thought i could and with the help and support of the facilitators and MAI's and I would recommend this course to everyone who thinks about going.

I ate a worm at a African village

The Gap Year of a Lifetime

Warriors Academy is focused on self mastery, through many physical challenges, and mental and emotional development. I learned how I handle situations when under pressure, stress, and exhaustion. These are all everyday experiences, and at Warriors I grew through working through the uncomfortability. A wonderful purpose that I found through this experience was getting uncomfortable intentionally in order to grow into the person that I desire to be. I had an incredible opportunity here, and would love for everyone to have this opportunity as well, for personal growth, health and resilience.

What was the most nerve-racking moment and how did you overcome it?
During Summer Quest, the most nerve wracking experience that I had was rafting down rapids on the beautiful Olifants River and flipping my boat. I was afraid and slightly panicked, swimming hard as an i sting of survival while gasping for air. I overcame this moment, by referring to what I had learned through the safety briefings that we were given, and applying the action steps. I came out safe, grateful, and trusting in the leader: Ruan, Thomas, and out MAI Brett.

Warriors Academy

This is one of the best things I’ve ever done this year and would definitely recommend it to others .Warriors Academy seems to deliver strongly on what it promises: a purposeful, challenging, growth-oriented gap year. Its strengths lie in pushing people beyond comfort zones, offering variety, and fostering meaningful change. The common criticisms are the expected ones for such an intense program — lack of comfort, physical toll, early starts, and emotional strain from being away from home.

If you’re someone who is ready (or willing) to stretch yourself, deal with discomfort, and lean into personal growth, Warriors Academy likely offers tremendous value. But if you prefer high comfort, minimal physical strain, or frequent contact with home, it might feel tough.

On balance, it’s rated very highly by alumni and seems reputable given the consistency of positive feedback and relatively few major complaints.

My experience at Warriors Academy was one of the most challenging and rewarding times of my life. The program isn’t just about adventure; it’s about discovering who you are, what you’re capable of, and how you can grow when you’re pushed beyond your comfort zone.

From the moment I arrived in the beautiful Magoebaskloof mountains, I could tell this wasn’t going to be an ordinary gap year. Every day was filled with something new — hiking through forests, mountain biking, abseiling down cliffs, and even working on community projects. The activities were physically demanding, but they also taught me mental toughness, teamwork, and resilience.

The facilitators and instructors were one of the best parts of the experience. They weren’t just leaders; they were mentors who cared about our growth. They guided us, challenged us, and encouraged us to be our best selves. At times, it felt tough — early mornings, long hikes, and the occasional sore muscles — but looking back, those were the moments that made me stronger.

Warriors Academy isn’t just about physical adventure; it’s also about emotional and personal development. We had workshops on leadership, communication, and emotional intelligence, which helped me understand myself and others better. I learned the value of gratitude, discipline, and being present in the moment. Being away from home and disconnected from technology gave me time to think clearly about my goals and what I truly value.

Of course, there were challenges. Some days felt exhausting, and the accommodation wasn’t always luxurious. You definitely need to be open to roughing it out a bit. But that’s part of what makes it real — you learn to appreciate comfort, people, and small victories.

What made it all worthwhile were the friendships I built. Living, training, and exploring with people from different backgrounds created a bond like no other. By the end, we weren’t just participants; we were family.

Overall, Warriors Academy is a life-changing experience. It teaches you gratitude, resilience, leadership, and how to be comfortable being yourself. It’s not an easy journey, but it’s one that shapes you in the best possible way. If you’re looking for an adventure that challenges you and changes you, Warriors Academy is the place to go.

Warriors Gap Year Program Recommendation

I am beyond grateful for the incredibly opportunity I received to attend Warriors Gap Year Program. Through this experience, I gained a healthy routine of morning exercise, exploration, social and deep self-development, all while feeling supported by the wonderful staff, and guided through amazing adventures. I felt safe enough to face my fears and challenges. Warriors gave me the opportunity to tick many activities such as skydiving, and bungee jumping, off of my bucket list.

I highly recommend joining the community to change your life, and experience what you may have never imagined.

What was the most nerve-racking moment and how did you overcome it?
The most nerve racking experience in spring quest was standing at the edge of the bridge to bungee jump. I overcame this by going for it, breathing and vibing to the fun music at the start. Trusting that I was safe and protected helped me to face this fear.

Warriors Academy

I've really enjoyed my time over the past 7 weeks and have grown alot as a person. We've made lifelong friendships, met many different people and now have so many more amazing memories. I was really looking forward to the Sun City experience however that was not fulfilled. We didn't end up going back to Polsmoore Prison after we weren't able to go in as we didn't have a booked time slot. We enjoyed all the traveling around South Africa to Cape Town and Johannesburg as well.

I'm really grateful for this opportunity.

What is your advice to future travelers on this program?
Make the most of every opportunity you get offered, you don't want to regret anything.

  • My roommates
  • The food

The Warriors Academy has taught me so much over the last year. It was the most fun I’ve had in a very long time. The friendships I’ve built are everlasting and have allowed me to see different cultures and views on several things. The venue is beautiful in the mountains with some of the best weather conditions ever, with the cleanest air you’ll ever taste. All the adventures and activities have benefited me immensely, and I will never forget the feeling the Warriors allowed me to feel and express with a great group of people.
