Seville Abroad

I LOVED my experience doing the Seville abroad summer program. It exceeded my expectations and I enjoyed the entire experience. What I loved the most was the freedom we had and the ability to explore the city and everything it has to offer. I felt like the program went by super fast because basically every day we had a planned activity and if we didn’t I would always go out and explore with my friends or family. I was nervous at first to speak Spanish but my family as well as many of the other families knew English pretty well so there wasn’t any stress with communication. I definitely did learn Spanish, mostly talking to other Spanish teens and ordering food. I was in the easiest level for Spanish classes and they were super fun but I think I learned more Spanish outside of class than I did while I was there. Every day we would go out and do an activity during Spanish class which made me look forward to the classes and I had a great time. One thing about the summer program is that it was over 100 degrees nearly every day so I bought a fan early on which I recommend. After a couple weeks I adapted to the heat and during the hottest hours I would be inside. Overall I loved this program and would recommend it to anybody.

What is your advice to future travelers on this program?
My advice to future travelers is to bring/buy a purse, a fan, and mosquito repellent. Most of the days I would be wearing skirts or dresses without pockets so a purse was vital to carry all my essentials. A fan definitely also is really important for the summer and mosquitos are especially bad at night so repellant is super important. I also think that you should become friends with all the people early on so your bonds can just get stronger over the month.
Pros
  • The freedom we had
  • Amazing host family
  • Lots of scheduled fun activities and experiences
Cons
  • Super hot
  • Didn’t learn as much Spanish as I thought
  • Spent lots of money because I go food and went shopping alot

My Spain experience

This month of studying abroad was honestly the best decision I have ever made. I never would have thought that at 15 years old I would be alone in Spain for a month. At first I was very homesick and I hadn’t adjusted well, but once we started school and met friends I knew it was going to be an amazing experience. When we all met up for the first time I thought it was going to be hard to make friends, but it was the complete opposite. Everyone was so friendly and we all clicked instantly! I was very nervous going into school because I thought it was going to be very hard and stressful. But, Candela made sure we were all on the same level and always had a fun and interactive lesson plan for us. Candela made me enjoy learning Spanish and made me want to come to class every day. Coming to Spain knowing little Spanish was definitely a struggle when interacting with my host family but it got easier over time. One thing I would fully recommend is going out at night. It was definitely my favorite part of the trip, especially staying out late on Friday nights. It was a really good opportunity to bond with the other students and even meet the locals. Overall I would say this was a life changing experience and I would come again!

What was the most unfamiliar thing you ate?
The most unfamiliar thing I ate was gazpacho. I never would think of drinking a cold vegetable drink. It is not my favorite food but it was pretty good and I am glad I tried it.
Pros
  • Becoming best friends with some of the girls and guys and creating bonds that I never thought was possible in such a short amount of time.
  • All the day trips and activities were always so enjoyable and I loved getting to experience something new each day.
  • Learning the Spanish language and culture and how differently they do things around here.
Cons
  • I didn’t end up learning as much Spanish as I was hoping.
  • It is going to be very hard to say goodbye to all my new friends.
  • It was very hot out so some of the day trips were very hard to get through without over heating or spending tons of money on water bottles.

Seville Abroad Summer Program

This program was amazing! Not only did I improve my Spanish, but I formed bonds that I will have forever. The staff of this program is nothing but supportive. They’re also extremely approachable; I never hesitated to reach out even if I had a tiny inconvenience. Everyone is very reasonable when it comes to rules, and I always felt like the main priorities with Seville abroad were fun, safety, and cultural exploration. My one complaint was where my house was located, because I was quite far from the city center, and my morning commute to class was slightly over an hour. However, I would recommend this program to everyone!!

What was your funniest moment?
my funniest moment was making friends with spanish people everywhere i went. the people are very sociable and it makes every day such an adventure. the way
Pros

Summer in Spain

Seville Abroad gave me an amazing experience where I learned about Spanish culture, history, and the language. I met so many amazing people and created many friendships with people I would have never met otherwise. Every activity we did was so much fun and learned about Spain. My favorite part of the trip was the other students. I have become so close with many of them and learned about their parts of the United States. This program is a no brainer for anyone who wants an adventure with a large group and a learning experience. I couldn’t recommend Seville Abroad more!

Pros
  • Meeting new people
  • Learning about Spanish culture and the language
  • Visiting multiple other cities in Spain

Seville Abroad Reveiw

Overall, my time in Spain was one of the best summers I have had. The days were always jam-packed with activities, excitement, and enjoyment. Almost every day, I was out doing things in either the city or the neighboring suburbs with my friends. If not, I was having a slow and quiet, but very much needed, day with my host family. During this time, I met many people, people I will continue to miss well after we leave Spain. I met both mixes of Spanish, Americans, and other travelers from all over. Seville Abroad gave me a summer I never thought I would have.

What was the most nerve-racking moment and how did you overcome it?
During this the most nerve-moment was going into this program was not knowing anyone previously. I overcame that when I saw that the people here were all kind and overall really sweet and nice to hang out with. They are what made this trip truly so fun and a experince I will forever miss.
Pros
  • Spending time with friends
  • Going out in the day and night through sevilla
  • Travelling to different citys and places
Cons
  • My comute to my house in Palomares

Seville Abroad Review

Overall I think this trip was an amazing experience for me. It pushed me out of my comfort zone and allowed me to experience new foods, customs and a new culture. I made some amazing friendships both with kids from the program and from Seville. I really liked that we had lots of group activities while also having lots of time to explore the city on our own and with friends. This trip helped me gain confidence in my Spanish speaking abilities as I have never had to have so many full conversations in spanish and helped me become more confident in talking to others in general. To the next kids coming out here I would say don’t be afraid to talk to new people and try new things, it can be scary but it is so worth it.

What was the most nerve-racking moment and how did you overcome it?
The hardest moment for me was the first few days with my host family. I felt so homesick and lonely and I really wanted to go home. I overcame that by creating friendships with the other kids and connecting more with my host family to feel more at home in seville.

An Unforgettable Experience – A Second Family and Lifelong Connections

Our daughter had the most incredible experience through this exchange program — one that went far beyond learning a new language or exploring a different culture. From the very start, we felt completely supported by the wonderful team behind the program. Their dedication, professionalism, and genuine care made all the difference. They were always available, attentive, and truly committed to making sure everything went smoothly for both the students and their families.

Equally remarkable was the host family, who welcomed our daughter with open arms and hearts. She wasn’t just a visitor — she became part of their family. She was cared for, loved, and included in every aspect of their daily life. It gave us, as parents, immense peace of mind knowing that she was surrounded by kindness, warmth, and support at all times.

What stands out most from this experience are the deep, meaningful relationships our daughter created — with her host family, with friends, and with the wonderful people who run the program. These are connections that will stay with her for a lifetime.

As parents, we couldn’t have asked for a better experience. Watching our daughter grow, gain confidence, embrace new challenges, and expand her understanding of the world has been truly rewarding. We are deeply grateful to both her amazing host family and the dedicated team behind the program. This is an experience that enriches the life of any young person and leaves a lasting impact on everyone involved. We wholeheartedly recommend it to any family considering it.

This was the perfect program for our son!

We were looking for a program for our 11th grade son. The search immediately got really overwhelming! There seem to be an infinite number of options. What made us look at Seville Abroad was the fact that they are not an intermediary with multiple programs (sub-contracts) around the world. The people we email or call are the SAME people that work with host families, run the office in Seville, and interact with our son.

It was very comforting to know that the Seville Abroad team got to know our son. They chose a perfect host family for him, and were very attentive throughout the year. Seville Abroad had very thoughtful programming within Spain. This includes a great office where our son could stop by for any extra help with school, Spanish, etc. or just to hang out. They presented a lot of optional trips that were a great way to connect our son with the other exchange students. Our son developed really wonderful relationships with the staff of Seville Abroad. He had an instant community upon arrival, and this really set him up for success.

Pepa and her team are passionate about their program, the city of Seville, and the idea of creating these experiences for youth. Our family recommends them without any hesitation. They provide incredibly personalized support and our son had a transformational experience thanks to them.

Our daughter had an incredible experience

Our daughter had a wonderful experience with Seville Abroad. She did the year long program her junior year of HS. The program staff were very welcoming, and provided excellent communication before, during and after the program. We felt that they went above and beyond to make sure our daughter and the other students were buys with meaning excursions both locally and in places like Morocco, Paris and Cadiz. She was placed with a terrific host family that cared for her and proved her with all she needed for he year abroad. The additional tutoring and meet-ups provided by the program during the school week really helped her with her Spanish language skills. We would feel very comfortable recommending Seville Abroad to anyone who has a child interested in studying abroad in Spain!

Best decision

Our decision to send our 16-year-old daughter away for a year was a difficult one. We worried about many things and of course about missing her. There were rough transitions and tough days for sure, but the overall message is: I couldn’t recommend this experience more for a young person to grow and develop and gain independence. Our daughter grew in ways that I couldn't have even imagined and came home with a strong sense of self, a new family and home away from home, and friendships to last a lifetime. She is also fluent in Spanish and has an incredible sense of self and empathy that is rare in someone so young. Thank you, Seville Abroad for your care and programming for our daughter.

What would you improve about this program?
Send to a school with less or no other Americans to better be able to meet the local students.
Pros
  • Great Spanish language learning
  • Great foreign travel/trips
  • Wonderful staff
Cons
  • Tough first family experience
  • Too many Americans at school
