Poland-Gotoco

I did Summer camps in Poland with Gotoco for three weeks. My role was talking to the participants of the camp aged ten to eighteen. I enjoyed having conversations with the participants and participating in the English learning games. A lot of Tesol programs that offer you Tesol qualifications require you to pay, but Gotoco pays for a lot of stuff for you and does not require you to pay them, so it's very affordable. The negatives were the long hours and the availability of vegan food. To conclude, I had a lot of fun, and everyone was really kind and helpful. If you are considering partaking in a summer camp with Gotoco, I would recommend it.

Amazing fully-funded opportunity for teaching and travel!

Gotoco's 3-month programme in Colombia was one of the best experiences I've had - I couldn't believe that it offered me a fully-funded opportunity to both teach and travel in a new country. The application process was straightforward, the other participants on the programme were all lovely and we were able to make lasting connections. Not only this, but the country was absolutely beautiful and Gotoco helped to arrange lots of opportunities for activities and travel which made the experience even better. Would definitely recommend for anyone looking to gain teaching experience/discover a new country.

Pros
  • Flights, accomodation and food fully funded
  • Great way to gain teaching experience/TESOL qualification
  • Opportunities for travel, getting to know local community, building good relationships with both the other participants and locals
Cons
  • Schedule structure varies depending on programme/location/school
  • Reimbursements can be a bit slow

Colombia programme

I went with Gotoco to Chinchina, Colombia, and had an amazing experience learning how to teach, learning more about local customs, living with new friends and enjoying amazing Colombia. I gained so much confidence not only in my teaching but in myself too and have made lifelong friends. Gotoco made sure that we were all always looked after, provided support if needed and helped us ease into Colombian life as smoothly as possible. Gotoco is run by some amazing people and I really recommend going abroad with them - you won’t regret it!

An AMZING way to visit Thailand!

I had a fantastic time on the short 6 week program in Thailand. I thought it was such a good way to visit the place. Teaching in a rural school really me immerse myself in the culture and live like a true local. I made some great friends on the trip and it was a fantastic experience teaching young children. The orientation week and post-programme trips organised by Gotoco were amazing and a great way to get some sightseeing done. My boyfriend and I did this programme together and Gotoco were very helpful in ensuring that we were placed at the same school together!

What was the most surprising thing you saw or did?
Visiting all of the beautiful temples and waterfalls!
Pros
  • Fully funded
  • Activities and trips are all organised for you
  • Teaching children who are very enthusiastic
Cons
  • Lack of communication from Gotoco before the trip
  • Some difficult room-mates

Initially I was sceptical but I would highly recommend for people wanting to seriously teach and travel

When I heard about Gotoco and saw the website I thought it might be a scam, but despite the lack of clarity in some areas on the website it is a good company. Your experience probably depends a lot upon the partner school or organisation, as it connects you to another org, but gotoco provides the qualification, flights and experience for free* (Instead of paying for nothing you get your money returned, so it is dependent on completing the course and qualification). This isn't particularly hard to do but it takes a while. I haven't received my money for the flights back yet and I returned from 3 months in rural Colombia in December, and have had the qualification finished for a month now without being marked. Despite this, I had the best time, had amazing opportunities to travel, and met some really lovely people. I didn't find it too intensive, but I know others on a different programme that had it harder in the city and were less connected to the other participants. If you want to do teaching I would highly recommend but make sure it's something you want to do before going out, and keep a good record of everything to have continuity in the school's curriculum (depending on where you are this can be a management issue). I had done some TEFL training previously and thought it helped because the training given beforehand for my programme was limited. I would do it all again if I could go back, as the community there was so prevalent and I experienced things I never had before.

Pros
  • flights, accomodation, and food covered
  • gain teaching experience in places that want native speakers
  • integrate with local community, learn about other cultures, meet other participants
Cons
  • variable working hours + management of programmes
  • slow communication before being accepted to programme
  • takes a bit longer to get the money back than advertised

the BEST 6 months in Thailand

I had the best 6 months teaching in Thailand. My experience was fully funded by Gotoco and included about a month of travel and cultural experiences and activities that really immersed me into Thai culture. I have received a Level 5 TESOL qualification and have valuable teaching experience. There was so much opportunity to travel and meet so many new people, and was just overall the most incredible experience, which I cannot thank Gotoco enough for. For anyone wanting to travel or just experience a different way of life, then I couldn't recommend Gotoco more !

Bali short stay exchange

Gotoco is an amazing company that offers people from any background an opportunity to teach and travel. They organised accommodation , transport and food and have us activities that were cultural and fun to bond and get to know the area. My summer with Gotoco was the best summer and i experienced so many new things and travelling at 19 alone was difficult but Gotoco made me feel very safe and i grew my confidence. We also had a week off to travel where was wanted and most people made the most of there time and did everything bali and the surrounding islands had to offer

What was the most nerve-racking moment and how did you overcome it?
The most nerve racking moment was saying goodbye to my family to leave the UK for two months on my own as my own adventure
Pros
  • sense of freedom
  • other likeminded people
  • the location
Cons
  • difficult roommates
  • some groups being very cliquey
  • Staff not handling conflict

RUN TO GOTOCO WHILST YOU STILL CAN!

Please tell us about some of your most enjoyable moments of the trip?
I enjoyed that I learned so much from the students as much as they learnt from me. I enjoyed learning how to live in a new city very different from london.

What was the best thing about your experience?-Trip to the Amazon
-Teaching at my wonderful school
-Learning Spanish
-Discovering a new culture
-GOTOCO trips to the fruit market and Villa de Leyva
- Our GOTOCO coordinators were incredible.

Would you recommend participating to a friend and if so why?

Yes:GOTOCO is an amazing program and what I love as well is how as a corporation you make space for people who aren't super well-of financially and you provide as much support as you can.

How would you say the overall experience has benefitted you?The program has helped me get (hopefully soon after marking) a TEFL qualification, taught me indirectly how to deal with my social anxieties and allowed me to do something fulfilling and worthwhile whilst travelling!

What was your funniest moment?
Interacting in some sort of sign language with all my Colombian friends because of my minima Spanish ahah
Pros
  • Amazing cohort
  • Great support by GOTOCO staff

Gotoco 6 month teaching placement - Thailand

This was an incredible experience that I am grateful to of had.

The program was fully funded which means that it is accessible to many people. The team offer support throughout the program. Before departure they books your flights and insurance, host webinars for you to meet other participants, learn what to expect, and offer support and advice. Your accommodation, transport, activities, and food costs are all covered until you start to earn a wage at your placement. You could definitely get by without savings, however, I would advise to bring some of your own money if you would like to do added activities, drink alcohol or incase of something unforeseeable like breaking a laptop ect.

Upon arrival they offer a wide range of cultural activities which are both fun and educational. You get to travel to different locations, stay in some lovely accommodation, and eat some amazing food. You train to become a teacher and get to practice those new schools in summer camps. You also meet lots of new people and have fun! The staff we lovely and supportive throughout the experience. Once you are at your placement gotoco still offer support, meet ups, and educational talks. When you finish the program you are offered advice on the next steps such as purchasing insurance and still have the support of your teaching agency,

The program is a great way to move to a new country, meet new people, and gain transferable skills. All with support and minimal costs. It also gives you a great foundation for changing career and becoming a teacher by attaining a TESOL qualification for free.

I thoroughly enjoyed the program, made life long friend's, and chose to spend another 6 months in my placement school. This isn't to say I didn't naturally have challenging moments throughout the program which come from moving to a new country and starting a completely new career. However, I felt that if I needed support then it was available.

What was your funniest moment?
Definitely hard to choose to one but some honorable mentions would be;

Visiting the Sukhothai historical park and riding bikes around ancient temples.
Visiting Wat Phra That Pha Sorn Kaew temple in an amazing thunderstorm.
Having lots of fun teaching in summer camps.
Learning about history in Kanchanaburi.
A bike ride and visit to a sustainable and organic farm in Bangkok.

Pros
  • Fully funded
  • Become Tesol qualified
  • Organised for you
Cons
  • Sometimes response times to emails can be slow

Amazing Summer in Thailand!

It was a truly great experience and gives young people the chance to travel and work abroad. It is well organised, and they fund the flights and provide a stipend for food making it very accessible. It was a life changing experience and I would recommend it to anyone who likes travelling. You also get a TESOL qualification at the end of it, and meet lots of amazing people there. There is a great introduction week where you get taught how to teach, meet other teachers and get used to living in another country which I really enjoyed. Overall, would highly recommend.
