My Review of ITA in Guadalajara with ITTO (Int'l Teacher Training Org)

This program was excellent. It definitely surpassed my expectations. It is intense and a lot of work. That's a great thing. You will be completely prepared to teach English as a foreign language. You will immediately begin working on lesson plans and preparing to substitute teach English classes at the language school which is just around the corner. You will learn methodolgies of teaching, you will practice teaching various grammar concepts, you will write essays, and much more. You will lead a conversation class. The teachers are excllent and the course is comprehensive and moves quickly. Like anything else in life, you get out of it what you put into it, so if you're interested inliving abroad and teaching, I highly recommend that you work hard every day, study, practice, and committ all of your energy to learning during the course. Upon graduation, you will definitely be prepared to lead an English class. In addition, Guadalajara is an amzing city and the students you will encounter are all polite and engaged. I love teaching English and am grateful to have found ITTO through ITA. As a final note, they will completely assist you in job placement - guaranteed. So, no worries about finding work afterwards. Many schools and language schools require a TEFL teaching certificate, so I would highly recommend the investment in this course. This is a 140 hour course - you will actually substitutue teach 10 classes, as well as a conversation class and a private lesson. Very comprehensive!

What is your advice to future travelers on this program?
I recommend looking for a family home stay during the course. I had a great time with my family and am still close friends with them a year later.
Pros
  • Excellent teachers/professors
  • Plenty of time actually teaching
  • thorough practice and education regarding grammar
Cons
  • Some of the technology (computers, etc) are a little outdated.

Great!

It was very intuitive and they provide great support. I recommend ITA.

The content was very informative and I was able to get many resources to use once I start teaching. The instructor was very helpful. The practice material was very realistic and relevant.

This is a great program to support teaching English as a second language, weather you are planning to teach abroad or online.

The course content and pace was excellent. You also get to connect with other professionals with similar goals. It was a great experience!

ITA Barcelona

I enjoyed my TEFL program with ITA in Barcelona. The teachers were kind, knowledgeable, and encouraging. I wish the program could've been spread out a bit more. I often felt rushed and didn't have much time to explore the city. The school was in a nice location though. I liked the students I taught as many were retired locals who were really interesting people. I liked how this program had a small class size. It made it so I was teaching often and getting lots of feedback from instructors and fellow teachers in training.

If you did this all over again, what's one thing you would change?
I would actually find the time to go to Sagrada Familia even though I only lived a 5 min walk from it.

ITA 11-Week Online TEFL Course

Completing ITA’s 11-week online TEFL course was an incredibly positive experience. The program was well structured, engaging, and filled with practical information that truly prepared me for teaching. The instructors were supportive and knowledgeable, offering helpful feedback that made every assignment meaningful.

The 20-hour practicum was a standout feature — getting real teaching experience boosted my confidence and tied everything together. Even though the course was online, the sense of community and interaction with classmates made it feel personal and motivating.

I also really value the lifetime job-search assistance. Knowing I have ongoing support and access to ITA’s global network gives me confidence as I move forward.

Overall, the course exceeded my expectations, and I’d highly recommend it to anyone looking to start a strong and rewarding career teaching English.

Great Preparation and Skills Practice

Any doubt I had about teaching English as a second language in this format ..while I naturally be nervous and may question my ability starting out-I’m confident that 8 was provided the resources and given enough practice and feedback to grow confidently as an ESL/ESOL teacher abroad and online.
Being able to have access to the materials for someTime after completion and also be able to purchase the resources if needed is also helpful. I didn’t have as much communication as I would like from the Alumni team but will try to engage more than usual to see if that improves as I am unsure navigating future employment on my own

What would you improve about this program?
Ability to engage with classmates outside of the discussion post. We aren’t given the opportunity (by choice) to exchange email contact or create a group chat to communicate outside of the platform. I learned a lot from the peer discussion post and wanted to engage with my peers further
Pros
  • Quick feedback from instructor, relevant educational information, great resources provided
Cons
  • Not able to communicate with peers outside of the platform
  • Not enough available office hours with instructor
  • Not enough real time interaction

Certification was needed, but didn't quite match what I was targeting

I enjoyed the program and found it to be well structured. However, in the end I was unable to achieve my target - ESL teaching at the University level. The ESL Certification was just one of several parts of my resume that I needed.

I successfully interviewed and was being offered a position at a university in Daegu ROK. However, given the short timeframe to begin I needed to have the appropriate Visa already.

As it turned out, I began work in the US as a Consultant and in turn began a position in the US Government. I currently serve as a Presidential Appointee. I was nominated by President Biden and confirmed by the US Senate for a 5-year term. I will likely be in this position until October 2029. Thus, it doesn't look like I will put the Certification to use as I wanted.

My TEFL Experience

I recently completed the ITA online TEFL course, and overall it was a strong and worthwhile program. The course content is detailed, especially around lesson planning and building practical teaching skills. I appreciated that it didn’t just give theory — it pushed me to apply strategies the way I will need to in a real classroom. The assignments and peer interaction helped me think like a teacher rather than a student.

It is a rigorous course, so future students should be ready to manage their time, stay organized, and start the practicum planning early. ITA provides solid resources, but you need to be proactive in asking questions and using the support offered.

I’m confident I’m walking away with real, usable skills, not just a certificate. The training strengthened my teaching foundation and gave me a clearer picture of what teaching abroad will require. Overall, a valuable experience — and I’d recommend ITA to anyone who wants high-quality training and is serious about being prepared for the classroom.

A Positive Experience

I am finalizing my final week of the TEFL course this week at ITA. Overall, it has been a good experience and I was able to do this while working full time. It was about 6-9 hrs a week on average for me. If you're interested in dipping your toes in teaching, this is a great way to start on that path.

I still need to complete my Practicum but am hoping to do that through ENGin which is a company that ITA had listed as one they recommended. They are flexible with your schedule and require you to tutor students for 10-12 weeks so it works perfectly to meet that 20 hr Practicum requirement tutoring 2 students a week for 1 hr.

What was the most nerve-racking moment and how did you overcome it?
I think creating my first lesson plan was hard and a little nerve-racking. I anticipate my Practicum experience also being nerve-wracking.

Hungary or Bust!

With my husband retiring and a plan to move back to his homeland, teaching English was my game plan, but I hadn’t been in school for 35 years. I was surprised how much I enjoyed this ITA course and received so much inspiration from fellow classmates through weekly forums. Our instructor was incredibly helpful and encouraging throughout the process. Her support kept me motivated! I took the 11-week course and found it manageable alongside my job. The program was easy to navigate and captured my interest off the bat. All the examples, ideas, and information were extremely practical and will be useful. I would encourage anyone interested in teaching English in another culture to make the leap and invest in this program!

What was the most nerve-racking moment and how did you overcome it?
I have not moved or gotten a job in Hungary yet, but my most nerve-racking moment in the course was feeling over my head in writing a lesson plan. I reached out to my instructor who helped me change my attitude and believe I could do it. The key is learning the resources at your disposal, knowing when to ask for help, and giving yourself grace in the learning process. It takes time and practice to become a good teacher, but starts with caring.
Pros
  • Interesting and rigorous content
  • Wonderful instructor
  • Wealth of resources and ideas
Cons
  • It took me more time than anticipated each week
  • Was more expensive than some programs, but worth it

Super good course

I recently completed The TEFL Academy’s Level 5 TEFL course, and overall, I found it to be a very worthwhile experience. The course is fully online, self-paced, and consists of a well-structured 168 hours of content. The modules cover everything from teaching methodology and lesson planning to grammar and classroom management, and I felt they provided a solid foundation for becoming an English teacher.

One of the biggest strengths was the quality of feedback. Each assignment was graded thoroughly, with helpful comments that really encouraged me to improve. The course is also Ofqual-regulated, which gave me extra confidence that my certificate would be recognized internationally. Support was responsive whenever I had questions, and I appreciated the flexibility of studying at my own pace.

In terms of value for money, this is definitely a step up from shorter, cheaper TEFL options — especially if you want a respected qualification that will help you stand out when applying for teaching positions. It took some discipline to complete, but the knowledge and practical skills I gained have already made me feel much more prepared to enter the classroom.

If you’re looking for a credible, challenging course that will give you both theory and practical tools for teaching, I’d highly recommend The TEFL Academy’s Level 5 TEFL.
